Book SS Death’s Head, SS-Totenkopf Division in France, 1940 (Item SS 27-6)

DESCRIPTION: This is a campaign history issued during World War II by the SS-Führungshauptamp and republished in English. It was published in 1979 and has been out of print since 1980. It has 123 pages of mostly pictures of the campaign in the west. This book was bought in 1980 for $32.75 and this price can still be seen in the front flyleaf. The text inside is translated from German and mostly is translated from the picture descriptions. The pictures are great—crisp and clear. The author Hunt goes into the typical tirade against the brave men of the ‘TK’ on the last page of what otherwise is a great pictorial record of this illustrious division.

Bread Plate in Ancient Teutonic Tradition (Item SS 27-7; BRE 1-3)

DESCRIPTION: Here is an item from the great traditional culture base of the Germanic peoples. A plate carved in oak like this would be found in the homes of SS personnel. The words around the swastika are from the Norse Edda: “Heil dem Gast der zu uns kommt,” “Hail the guest that to us comes. (Edda).” The words are carved with rounded edges that look to be applied, but actually are carved right along with the actual plate (it’s all one piece). The stylized swastika in the center is the Sonnenrad Hakenkreutz, or sun wheel. This is the truest form of the symbol of the ever-turning fiery celestial orb in that its arms resemble flames. On the back is a single ‘W’ and that is presumed to be the logo or mark of the carver. The plate measures 12 1/2 inches in diameter. The marks that look like cracks are not. They are merely natural graining. We earnestly believe that this is connected with the SS-Ahnenerbe Stiftung because of its very nature. Plates such as these that were often called ‘Julteller,’ ‘Yule plates,’ were often a gift to another SS family at the time of the Julfest, Christmas. Not only was the birth of Jesus celebrated by most of the SS, but also the traditions of the Germanic peoples in their winter solstice. In the context of the SS traditions, the word ‘Christmas’ Weihnachtfest, had nothing originally to do with the Christian faith, but related to Germanic pre-Christian beliefs. The sun symbol on the plate also has the connotation of eternal life (eternally rolls the wheel of life). Everything dies, everything blooms again; eternally rolls the wheel of life Sonnenrad everything breaks, everything is mended. Eternally builds the house of life. Everyone parts, everyone meets. Forever, the cycle of life stays true. Certain SS men refused to part with their Christian ways and this was respected by the SS parent organization. So both faiths, Christian and Pagan, were celebrated together in the Third Reich and in the Schutzstaffel.

SS Allach Porcelain Horse (Item SS 27-9; ART 12-1)

DESCRIPTION: Here is the piece that Professor Diebitsch, the originator of Allach, said was the finest model ever turned out by the Allach firm. Certainly, the stance, the lines, the actions, are exemplary. This was the figure known as the “ Springendes Pferd,” “Jumping Horse,” by the famous Prof. Theodore Kärner of Munich, one of the greatest of the Allach artists. This piece was so favored of the SS Allach factory that it ended up being featured on the cover of their 1938/39 catalog. “A thing of beauty is a joy forever.” If ever this saying could be ascribed to an inanimate object, here it is in all its dramatic glory and this is without even knowing that it is a very important historic piece, as well, in that it is a superbly manufactured item from the benches of the all-important SS Allach firm located in the hamlet of Allach on the Dachauer Strasse below Munich. Our historic advisor actually met with Prof. Carl Diebitsch in 1979 in Tegernsee and at that time the professor told him that this was also his favorite sculpture of all that were produced. This is a large horse that measures 14 inches from the bottom to the highest point of the mane. The base is about 18 inches long and 5 inches wide from the tip of the front, forward. Hoof to the tip of the tail is 21 inches. The consigner said that there was previous damage to the front legs (cracks), but we cannot see it, even under magnification. Perhaps a black light might show it. He said he took it for repair to a professional porcelain studio and when it came back it seemed as good as new! The book by Tony Oliver shown in our images and the copy of the Allach catalog are long out of print and we are unable to procure either one. They are shown only to illustrate the importance of this horse sculpture. The buyer of this item will need to understand that it must be very specially packed by professionals and the cost could be rather heavy. It must be packed with special ‘popcorn’ filling and a box within a box and maybe another box around those. This is a very precious item and must be handled as such! Only a very few of these pieces have ever been offered since 1945, and the production was extremely limited at the SS studios.

Nazi Baby Ring (Item SS 27-15; NSD 13-1)

DESCRIPTION: Here is the smallest NS ring ever! They were manufactured for the children of loyal party members and SS personnel. The ring was often presented to parents of a newborn at Christian baptism or the special rites of the same, but performed by the SS officials in solemn ceremonies. The ring is not something like the size of an SS Victory ring or as impressive as a Hitler Youth leader’s ring, but it has its own charm, notwithstanding. It features an enameled swastika cradled in flowers as would be expected in an infant’s ring. It has some markings inside that look to be a logo and the ‘800’ silver designation. This is a very pretty petite piece of Third Reich jewelry that probably would not even start to go on your pinky. The size is near to a 5. This is rare and original.
