SS Porcelain Statue by Meissen Die Alarm; once Belonged to Dr. Goebbels (Item SS 7-4; GOEBBELS 1-7)

DESCRIPTION: OK! Now for the best. This is an absolutely incredible sculpture called "The Alarm." It depicts two SS men in uniform reacting to an emergency call (Did the Red Front start an attack?) In any case the action is great! Only one other porcelain sculpture like this reportedly exists and it is similar except for the fact that the participants are SA instead of SS. The statue was formerly the property of a German general-consul who bought it in 1946. A photocopy of his declaration is included with the piece. He said, "This is a note about the porcelain statue by Meissen made for Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels." (Note: the letter is from RHG Styler, a general-consul in the German Foreign Office. He still lives in Munich. It roughly translates to: ["In the year 1946 I went to a small auction in Berlin to look at a Bieder-Meier 1815-1848 desk and a small wooden trunk. This furniture was from the Berlin possessions of Dr. Goebbels and his wife. In the trunk I found original packages containing various articles from the personal possessions of the Goebbels they were as follows:
#1 Two porcelain figures by Bottger-porzellan (Meissen) of SS men in military sport competition readiness.
#2 An eagle head in this material.
#3 Marble object?
#4 Orders and documents from the 1936 Olympics and party-connected items.
#5 Piece of onyx jewelry from a trip (souvenir).
#6 A leather briefcase.
#7 Shoe materials (strings, shoehorn, etc.)
#8 Lady's night dress with a coat of arms and a monogram with embroidered "M" (Magda?)
#9 Cartier cigarette lighter, a present from the Duke of Windsor.
#10 Small jewelry collection.
#11 Miniature paintings from the Bieder-Meir period."])
The sculpture was done by Erich Oehme, one of the most famous of the Meissen artists working in this red-clay mode. Most of the figures that Oehme created were animals. His work is fervently sought after today and seldom found. This without a doubt is one of the largest and finest of his productions in this fascinating red-stone style. The piece is quite large, about 19 inches high at the highest point and 17 inches long. This is rare, magnificent, artistically wonderful, dynamic, awe inspiring, BUT, damaged in a few places. Unfortunately, one of the straps on the pack of the lower figure was broken off, but now replaced. The bayonet scabbard on the same figure has been repaired at some time. There was a crack across the whole of the bottom, but was excellently repaired. So, all in all, the figures look great! Regardless of repairs, without a doubt this is a piece not only ultimately rare, but is a great piece of German art by a major artist and having been owned by one of the most important pivotal figures of the Third Reich and world history. Do they get any better??? I don't think so! We are very proud that Germania International, LLC is able to offer the very best in important art pieces of the NS era and this one really makes our pride swell!
