SS Mother's Runic Pendant (Item SS 5-3)

DESCRIPTION: This was a mother's jewelry piece used by only one unit of the , the Standarte 72 based at Detmold. It was near Detmold that Hermann the liberator with the united tribes of the Teutons soundly defeated. The legions of Imperial Rome in the Teutoberg Forest. This possibly is why this particular group wanted to design ancient Germanic art to be worn by their members. The piece was manufactured for them by the firm of Gahr in Munich. This was probably the first idea for an runic piece of jewelry for the German mother. Later, as we know, the firm made another design that was nearly adopted, but never produced except for one piece. This example was in fact produced and worn within the 72nd -Standarte. It is a classic Schwarz Korp item, embodying all the mythos of strong Teutonic ideology and form. It's about 2 inches high and an inch and a quarter across at its widest extension. The chain is not original to it. It is marked with the Gahr stamp on the back and is of pure 800 silver. Very rare and of course historically significant. It is shown on page 32 of the book Otto und Karolina Gahr-die Silberschmiede der NSDAP und des by Arthur Meyer and Heinrich W. Schild published in Germany in 1993. Note: pictures from this hornbook on the rarely visited subject.

PRICE: $475.00

Thor Hammer (Item SS 5-4a)

DESCRIPTION: This is the Gahr version of the Hammer of the Nordic God, Thor. They considered it a Werkverzeichnis NR 16 and they first introduced it in 1934 and they listed it as available in silver. All of this information is available in the book Otto und Karolina Gahr, Die Silberschmiede der NSDAP und der page 74. However, this is only one of the Thor hammers produced by Gahr. The hammer harks back to the early Germanic times and was resurrected as an Aryan symbol by the Deutsches -Ahnenerbe-Stiftung. The heritage foundation caused many ancient Germanic jewelry pieces to be re-created to instill a sense of Pagan pride in the members, but also to give academic interest in the Nordic past to all Germans. This item is in extremely fine Gahr detail with a wide passage hole to receive a chain or thong. It measures about 1 ½ inches tall and is an important relic.

PRICE: $145.00

Gahr Thor Hammer-Type 2 (Item SS 5-4b)

DESCRIPTION: Here in short supply is an incredible Thor hammer similar in design to the one depicted above, except that this is a signed one. It seems that in some cases the firm of Gahr allowed its designs to be manufactured by other jewelry firms on special contract. This was done in cases where the orders were coming in at a rate faster than the small Munich firm's production capability could handle. This signed version is also in pure silver, but much heavier because it is solid on its backside; not hollow like the older model. The front is identical to the older type. As we have said in our description, there were indeed other hammers designed by Gahr, but this is the only signed one that we have ever come across. This was made in the workshop of Julius Bauer & Sohne in Zella (Thoringa). This company was spared the bombing of WWII, but many of its N.S. items had to be disposed of in 1945. An elderly gentleman who worked there was able to gather numerous objects from its workshops and we were able to purchase many fine items from him in Stuttgart, recently. He was a jewelry finisher in the 1930's and '40's and had a keen sense of entrepreneurship as documented in our other offerings under the SS and Wehrmacht Victory Rings that we proudly offer. (See Item WEHR 3-1 and Item SS 3-3). This was the find of the century and many items that would have been as scarce as hen's teeth are now available because of this old jeweler's forward thinking in 1945. The hammer in this form or the one listed at Item SS 5-4a are both very beautiful and extremely important to the history of the Third Reich, and the Schutzstaffel, in particular.

PRICE: $195.00

The Black Corps (Das Schwarze Korps) (Item SS 5-5)

DESCRIPTION: This is the official newspaper of the . We have a few of these various dates and various conditions. They are filled with great material from the political endeavors and the war. Most of them are so old and brittle that the most that can be done with them is to carefully and painstakingly copy the articles and pictures on a photocopier and perhaps frame the front page as a great momento of the European struggle to save the West (the West lost!) It is a great pity about the condition, but how many 1935 to 1944 newspapers make it?

PRICE: $35.00 to $75.00 depending on condition. Left is grade 1; right is grade 2
