Ordensberg Vogelsang Pictures (Item GEN 10-1; YOUTH 4-11)

DESCRIPTION:Here, due to popular demand, is another set of pictures similar to the Reichsparteitag set Item PARTEI 2-8, but this one is of the NS Political School at Ordensberg Vogelsang. Here it was that the future leaders of the NS state were trained in the beautiful stately school developed in the gorgeous Eifel region. These schools were for those who, in their Hitler Youth Service, had worked diligently and demonstrated that they could be said to be the elite of the upcoming youth leadership. Sometimes the person entering the NAPOLA was in the earlier time one who was outside of the age group in which they would have been members of the HJ, but their scholastic accomplishments qualified them to be applicants. Two thousand years of German culture certainly influenced the castles of order placements such as Sonthofen Vogelsang. They appeared like medieval castles, but with the recognizable style of National Socialist architecture aforethought regardless. It was the dream of every Hitler Youth lad to someday be elevated to an Ordensberg member. Today, Vogelsang is a national park and the beautiful building is preserved, but with all the wonderful NS statuary removed and destroyed. This set of cards at least shows what it was like in those days of high adventure.

Volkische Beobachter Map of Germany (Item GEN 10-2)

DESCRIPTION:The V.B. was the official Nazi newspaper called the “Great Newspaper Journal of the New Reich.” This is a special map of Germany published by this newspaper. Actually it is sectionalized; this one being of Regensburg with the areas of Kemnath, Amberg, Cham, and the Czech city of Pilsen included. The map folds out quite large, but from many years of use it is quite fragile and we are not going to open it. The condition of the outside with the Führer’s pictures on the front behind the wheel of his Mercedes and the back cover with the NS eagle are in really great shape, but we would have to say the map is a bit distressed. The price back in the 1930s is still on it—R.M. 90—and thus was pretty expensive back then. It measures 11 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. This is a very seldom encountered item; great to display with your Mercedes Benz touring car.

Europe and the Bull Ashtray (Item GEN 10-3)

DESCRIPTION:Here is an ashtray from the maritime empire known as the world-famous Norddeutschen Lloyd Lines that was founded in 1857 and in WWII it lost almost its entire fleet of ships. Many had to be scuttled in the mid Atlantic to avoid capture and use by the British Royal Navy. In 1970, the company amalgamated with Hamburg America Line and became the HAPAG Lloyd Line. Before WWI North German Lloyd was the world’s largest shipping company. “Old Britannia, which claimed to rule the waves, was not going to sit still for that.” The ashtray has the Europe and the bull theme. This depiction comes from Grecian legend and saga. It refers to Zeus’ rising from the sea in the shape of the bull and the beautiful Europe ornamented him with a laurel wreath and sat herself on the powerful animal to let it carry her. The bull legend is sacred to Germanic Europeans. In this depiction the nude maiden prepares to aid the bull while addressing the rest of the gods for permission. The ashtray is made in Bakelite and this was used extensively in the Third Reich for object d’art as well as functional items such as pistol grips and radios. The translation of the words ‘Schnelldampfer Europa’ is ‘fast steamer Europa’ and, of course, under this is ‘Norddeutscher Lloyd.’ Europa was the sister ship of Bremen. They were a pair built in 1928 for transatlantic passenger service. It was taken over by the U.S. Navy in 1945, retained her name, and became the USS Europa (AP-177). In 1950, it became the French liner SS Liberté. The ashtray is most definitely from the 1930s. The back of the ashtray has the Norddeutscher logo that incorporates the anchor and key of Hamburg and its port of Bremen. This is a nice NS or seafaring memento of better times on the high seas.

Book Die Narren des Kaganowitsch (Item GEN 10-4)

DESCRIPTION:This book is about Lasar Mosche Kaganowitsch, chief advisor to Josef Stalin and high politburo member. He, along with Jagoda and Baumann (coconspirators), organized the plan whereby 15 million small farms were destroyed in the worker’s paradise of Soviet Russia. Kaganowitsch is known as the Butcher of the Ukraine. Ukrainian grain was collected and stored in grain elevators that were guarded by military units and NKVD secret police units while Ukrainians were starving in the immediate area. The actions of Kaganowitsch and his Moscow good comrades was a deliberate act of genocide against the peasant. This was instituted in 1932-1933 and resulted in the death of about 10 million people, mainly Ukrainians. This was to force them into collectivization. May the souls of those red criminals walk the red coals forever and they might take certain U.S. wartime presidents and a certain U.K prime minister with him. The book is extremely rare and was published by the central Verlag of the NSDAP (Franz Eher) in Munich. It was written by Karl Miedbrot in 1942. The cover conveys a message, or it would seem.

Unser Hitler” Teacup (Item GEN 10-6; AH 15-6)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a great, little piece of original Kitch. After the election of Adolf Hitler in 1933, the German specialty shops throughout the Reich abounded with items with the graven image of the Führer. Most of them still showed him in the brown-shirt uniform of the Kampfzeit (the struggle for power). This was the contribution of the Schumann Company of Munich, Bavaria. It is a really pretty little cup with a great depiction on color of the leader. The face is particularly good and reflects the enthusiasm of his political agenda. The rim is colored black, white, and red; Germany’s national colors. The maker’s mark is clear with the rampant lion. It is 3 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. This is a genuine prize of a Third Reich patriotic item that was a treasured collectible, even in its time.

Rare Damascus Blade Diplomatic Corps Sword--Ribbentrop's??? (Item DIPLO 1-1; GEN 10-7)

DESCRIPTION:Here is without a doubt the most beautiful sword of the Third Reich and this one is certainly the finest and scarcest that has ever been found. Thomas Johnson in his hornbooks on German edged weapons in Vol. 1, page 145, says that the diplomatic sword was clearly the most expensive of the entire N.S. sword line (in its day!). Certainly, the tradition continues as far as price is concerned. So, we at Germania are extremely proud to offer this particular piece that is both stunningly beautiful, but also, has the distinction of being unique! Absolutely unique! We have not heard of another like it offered historically or currently. This is the only Damascus-bladed diplomatic sword that has ever come along that we know of. This is real Damascus, not etched Damast. The pattern is beautiful with flowing serpentine and floral design; absolutely breathtaking to the collector who appreciates the blades, especially Damascus blades. We can only surmise and speculate how important the owner must have been. We know that the swords of this type were not issued, but had to be individually purchased and from time to time a beautifully engraved one shows up, but a Damascus one? Well, it just hadn’t happened, until now. This obviously was a very special custom order and probably was damnably expensive in the 1930s/1940s. Fine Damascus blades were super expensive then as they are now. Naturally, to be a diplomatic corps officer, one was usually recruited from the German nobility or landed gentry and many of these men were quite wealthy in their own right and a few could afford a prize such as this. Whoever had it certainly was never from the peasant-farmer class. That is evident.

Note: We cannot say with any full knowledge aforethought that there is the distinct possibility that this sword might have been the personal one of Joachim von Ribbentrop, the chief German diplomat and foreign minister of the Third Reich. We say this because it is so radically different than any other diplomatic sword of the period. We might ask who other than von Ribbentrop might wear such a unique sword.

The sword is quite long measuring 37 1/2 inches in its scabbard. The blade is 31 1/4 inches long. The fittings are heavily silver plated. The mother-of-pearl grips are perfect and bright with much “fire” to them. The scabbard leather is firm and unbroken anywhere. The blade is unsigned as is usual with genuine Damascus blades. Unlike some of the daggers associated with the diplomatic corps, the swastika is clear and well defined within the wreath. In fact, everything is clear and crisp throughout the sword. This is a superior piece throughout and we are pleased to accept the consignment of it as it graces our pages. It is a thrill to hold it in our hands. Seldom does anything this gorgeous come along today, when even SA and SS daggers are getting to be rarely offered. Here is a chance to acquire the epitome of NS edged weapons at a very reasonable price.

Volkswagenwerk Stickpin (Item GEN 10-8; PINS 4-24)

DESCRIPTION:Here is a beautiful little stickpin for the opening and cornerstone laying of the Volkswagen factory on May 26, 1938. The ceremony included the German Führer placing he cornerstone. It was then that Adolf Hitler named this KDF, Porsche car the “People’s Car”--Volkswagen--and it was that in the truest sense of the word. A storm of joyful applause erupted as the Führer took a seat in the test car. The workers proudly wore this stickpin as a symbol of their faith and enthusiasm for this little car. The pin is constructed with gorgeous black enamel finish and displays the VW symbol (dime sized).

Day Badge (tinny) for the Reichs Colonies (Item GEN 10-10)

Germany was proud of her colonies and this celebration gathered many thousands who joined in the festivities of the day. The great-looking different Reichs eagle and colonial banner made this into a really great-looking badge. It measures 1 1/2 inches x 1 inch and is marked ‘L. Chr. Lauer-Nürnberg-Berlin’ on the back. It’s in fine condition.

Book Stätten Deutscher Weihe (Item GEN 10-12; RAREBOOK 2-10)

DESCRIPTION:This is a book tracing the history of the German Reichs from ancient Teutonic times to the awaking of the German Volk under the “new order” (the Third Reich. The front page is signed with a dedication signed by Wilhelm Franconi. Reichsinnungsminister Franconi was a highly placed leader of the DAF Workers’ Union. This was the NSDAP replacement for the dissolved trade unions. Franconi was a minister without portfolio. The book has 404 pages and is replete with beautiful pictures from German history: castles, reformers, warriors, kings, SA men, SS men, leaders, NSDAP ceremonies, memorials, poems, wars, peace, and a fantastic portrait picture of Adolf Hitler as the opening page. There are 150 wonderful pictures of the greatness of the German Reich and the block with the saying: “Nimmer wird das Reich zerstöret, wenn ihr enig seid und true” (Presented to an Herr Erich Muller, Christmas 1935). The book is in pristine fine condition and measures 9 1/2 x 12 inches and is about 1 1/2 inches thick. It has a beautiful fabric-covered, blue cover with gold inlay title. This is a great archival addition to a serious collection of NS material. The word Weihe loosely translates to ‘holy realm’ or ‘honorable’ something. This is simply a prodigiously important book.

Book Reichstagung in Nürnberg 1934 (Item GEN 10-14; PARTEI 3-4)

DESCRIPTION: This is one of the Reichsparteitag (Reich’s Party Days) books. This one was the 1934 edition with a foreword by the man who would become an NS martyr in 1946, Julius Streicher. If you have historical interest in the Third Reich and do not have one of the “big blue rally books” you are severely deprived because here it is! These books and especially this, the 1934 one, lay it all out. Here are the accomplishments of the NS State portrayed quite dramatically. The SS, the SS, RAD, HJ, DAF, the army, the Fraunschaft, Hitler, Göring, Hess, Lutze, Darré, the Gauleiters, Himmler, Goebbels, Bormann; all are pictured in great photographs within. The 110 pages of mostly pictures attend this work: parades, reviews, ceremonies, flags, standards, and sacred places abound. The year 1934 was the second year of the 4-year NS plan and already Germany had recovered from the recent Great War and depression and was on its way to the “Germanic Empire” of greatness personified. The Parteitage gave the German people a feeling of national rebirth. To them the Führer was the savior from economic and social disaster; the unifier of the German populace; the man who was restoring Germany’s honor, and raising the nation again to its proper rank among the European family of nations. This is shown in stark realism in these books. It is a large book measuring 11 1/2 x 9 inches and almost an inches and a half thick. The beautiful cover is in great shape except for some tiny holes that look like nail holes along the edges. Why??? They do not detract from the beauty of the volume at all. This is the ultimate party book that speaks of the Volksgemeinschaft, the national community.

Book München vom Wesen Einer Deutschen Stadt, Hauptstadt der Bewegung (Item GEN 10-16; RAREBOOK 2-11)

DESCRIPTION: The book Saga of the Nature of a City, Head City of the Movement has a print cover with a statement that seems to translate to something like: “To say it cannot be done is not the German way!” This book sums up in words and pictures the spirit of this the greatest, most fun-loving, art-appreciating, and spiritual city of Europe. Especially in the Third Reich Munich showed its deep inner spirit. But to the NSDAP and its leader, Adolf Hitler, Munich was the inner soul of the German nation. Berlin was the nation’s capital city, but Munich was the heart and spirit of the National Socialist Bewegung (movement). It was there that the NSDSAP was born. It was there that the Putschists of November 9, 1923, laid down their lives at the Feldherrenhalle. Old Munich is reflected in the gorgeous architecture of the past: churches, palaces, stately castles, and mansions abound and contrast with the new NSDAP buildings that meet in happy union with the glorious past. Buildings by Troost and Speer grace the gorgeous Haupstadt. Featured is the grand parade to open Paul Ludwig Troost’s House of German Art. The parade was the greatest culture lineup the world had even seen. Two thousand years of Germanic art and culture with floats, actors, reenactors, etc. Much of the book is dedicated to German art, old and new. Very unfortunately four of the finest of the picture pages were stuck together at some point during the past 70 years, and dime-sized scars are the result (they would be on the Third Reich’s most important buildings in the Königsplatz) Interestingly enough the captions under the great pictures are in German, Italian, French, and English. The book was published in 1937 and has 133 pages of text and superb pictures, photos, and drawings—culture, culture, and more culture! It measures 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches and other than the slight damage to those four pages, the book is in wonderful shape.

Swastika Key to the Future (Item GEN 10-17)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a very petite piece of jewelry made to look like one of the old skeleton keys. Actually, it’s a piece of fine-crafted jewelry and represents the swastika’s being the key to the National Socialist Future. It was probably a sweetheart gift to a lady “Bewegungsglauber,” (movement believer). We think this is a very important spiritual NSDAP item. Think about the meaning!
