Eternal Flame Stickpin, the Putsch (Item GEN 11-1; PINS 5-10)

DESCRIPTION: Here is an extremely rare stickpin that depicts an urn with flames surmounted by a swastika. This is the early official badge that was worn by receivers of the Blood Order and those who gave aid to the victims, such as those who were wounded in the November 9th Putsch in Munich. Its message is that out of the conflagration will come the spirit of the Third Reich; this being the most-honored insignia of the Reich.

National Socialist Charm or Pendant (Item GEN 11-2; SA 10-11)

DESCRIPTION: Here is something actually more important than it looks. It’s a petite, round, wreathlike piece of fine jewelry in circular form with a blue, enameled swastika dangling in the center. This was an early SA presentation to the wives and sweethearts of the storm troopers. It has a jump ring so it can be worn on a charm bracelet or on a neck chain. It is about the size a U.S. dime. It’s an early Kampfzeit item that had practically no chance of making it this far in the future without getting lost; thus rare.

Book The Nazis in Africa (Item GEN 11-4; ENG BOOKS 1-1)

DESCRIPTION: This book is subtitled: Lost Documents on the Third Reich, Volume III, and was edited by L. Smythe Barron and published by Documentary Publications of Salisbury, NC. It was published in 1978, and has been out of print for 28 years. It was scarce back then with only 300 or so copies having been printed. It is a fascinating book with previously impossible information. There are 50 documents (translated) from secret U.S. diplomatic files concerning the National Socialist efforts to regain its lost African dominions. The materials cover the period from the first year of N.S. Germany to 1939. It’s fabulous and profoundly interesting reading with a detailed index. The letters are most revealing and the subjects intriguing. The book has 207 pages (nonpictorial) and measures 9 x11 inches. It’s in very good shape and certainly rare today.

Wir wollen,” “We want” (Item GEN 11-5; AH 18-2)

DESCRIPTION: These are the statements of the German führer to the people of Germany and the world at large. This was a statement of position concerning the will and the spirit of the National Socialist agenda of the German nation. This was from a speech made just after Hitler was elected the chancellor on March 5, 1933. This speech was made on the March 25, 1933. The whole of the great address is presented on a beautifully constructed wooden plaque. Around the edges are 18 shields depicting the various German provinces such as Saxony, Brandenburg, Lippe-Detmold, Prussia, Bavaria, Mecklinburg, Wurtenberg, Hannover, and the Hanseatisches states. At the top is the German state eagle shown without swastika (too early). However, in the letters that form the large “Wir Wollen,” tiny swastikas are interwoven in each of the letters. The entire plague is made to resemble marquetry (and does!). It measures 20 x 13 inches. On the back it still has the tag of the manufacturer and it has number ‘9159’ stamped along the edge. Perhaps this is an inventory number from whatever school, office, or government building where it hung. This is a very showy piece of Third Reich history and important, indeed.

Book Hindenburg (Item GEN 11-6; WWI 8-13)

DESCRIPTION: This is a great paste-in cigarette-card book printed in the time of the NS regime by the Sturm Cigarette Company in Dresden. It’s not about the zeppelin; it’s about the great WWI Field Marshal and first president of Germany, Paul von Hindenburg, the hero of Tannenberg and one of the most successful war leaders of all time. The book has 125 pages with all the glued-in pictures there and intact. The black-and-white pictures are extraordinarily good, sharp, and crisp. The full-color illustrations are great. The pictures and text follow this illustrious career all the way from his first pictures as a young Prussian cadet officer all the way through the Franco-Prussian War, when he was a lieutenant in the Third Guard Regiment 3F in the field up through the First World War to his presidency of the German republic and his meeting with Adolf Hitler, whom he slates as his successor and finally as he is laid to rest at the gigantic memorial crypt at Tannenberg with the largest memorial service and funeral Germany has ever seen. He truly was a warrior and hero and his name will live on to time immemorial. There are hundreds of pictures and illustration here plus, as a bonus, two clippings from German newspapers about the death in 1888 of Frederick Wilhelm III, the Kaiser of Germany, King of Prussia and another chronicle about the death of von Hindenburg. The book is in 100-percent excellent condition with fine linen cover with the Hindenburg coat of arms embossed on the front in high relief. The book measures 9 x 12 inches and is about an inch thick. This is a historical treasure!

Book Aus dem Ersten ins Dritte Reich (Item GEN 11-7)

The rich culture is delved into deeply. There are many pictures of the German NS leaders and liberator, including Hitler with President Hacha and others. Portrayed is the great liberation of the Sudeten Germans by the Wehrmacht, a glorious event that would turn horrible in 1945, with the forced expulsion of these people from their ancestral homeland under whip and bayonet. Thousand were murdered. This is an extremely important book for students of this phase of the history of WWII. The book is very rare and in very good condition. It measures 9 x 11 1/2 inches.

Book Odal (Item GEN 11-8)

DESCRIPTION: This is the magazine published under the official auspices of Richard Walter Darré. This is a July 1940 issue. For this agricultural organization that promoted advanced farming techniques, but with the tactic of the ancients’ coming forward to help make a nobility of the peasant farmer the reality once more. The idea was to install an intense pride in agricultural prowess and ability for the “Volk” thus the name “Blood and Soil;” race being the most important facet of successful cohesion and the soil whence springs all possibility of life. This then was one of the most important missions and departmental offices of the Third Reich. The soft-covered book is one of a series so we cannot go by the page numbers that go into the 500s, but we would be safe in saying there are more than 85 pages. There are many pictures of agricultural plans and successes. The cover has a nice picture of a winner of the Knight’s Cross by Wolfram Willrich; good NS study for the student or collector of this important aspect of history.

German Toy Train (Item GEN 11-10)

DESCRIPTION: This is a child’s toy train set from the Third Reich period. It actually belonged to Wilhelm Reinhard Gehen, one of our historical referents here at Germania. “Willy” was a member of the Hitler Youth, later a Flakhilfer on the Luftwaffe artillery, a member after WWII of the French Foreign Legion with numerous combat jumps as a paratrooper in the legion. He kept the train all those years and it is in mint condition in its original box. The box is a bit flimsy, but it is there? We don’t know who made it but it sure is cute.

Book Three Copies of the Illustrirte Zeitung from Leipzig, dates 1933, 1935, and 1937 (Item GEN 11-14)

DESCRIPTION: This was one of the nicest of the monthly magazines of the Third Reich and covered many subjects of European interest: art, architecture, foreign news and customs, sports in the Reich, important homeland-defense celebrations, and church and state. The 1935 issue has a great article with brilliant pictures about the life and career of the great general, Ludindorf, and important pictures of early NS movements and events. In the 1933 issue is a great article of Heidelberg students dueling and, again, important NS state events, plus a fine pictorial article on the Bayreuth Wagner Festival. The 1937 issue has a great section on the International Hunting Exhibition sponsored by Hermann Göring in Berlin and the anti-Communist exhibition called “Communism Behind the Mask.” It also has a really great article with super pictures dealing with German police training. Quite noticeable is the fact that the German police looked like and acted like policeman, unlike the sorry-looking excuses that today's law-enforcement officers pretend to be. These three magazines are in a large format and measure 15 x 11 inches and are stamped with a rubberstamped Research Department Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. These were bought in an auction house of surplus items from the studio.

PRICE: $70.00; for all three

Flapper Girl of the 1920s (Item GEN 11-16)

DESCRIPTION: Here in solid bronze is the famed flapper in his 8 inches high. She represented to the National Socialists, the personification of everything degenerate in the 1920s Berlin and throughout the Reich This, to the NS people, was “Amerika Kultur” at its worst. In 1932, Alfred Rosenberg's Fighting League for German Culture, together with Paul Joseph Goebbels’s, sponsored a degenerate-art exhibition in Berlin. And so successful was it that it started a traveling exhibition touring Germany's largest cities. The title of the exhibition was “Entartungkunst” (degenerate art). This was defined as works that insult German feeling or destroy or confuse natural form or simply reveal an absence of adequate manual and artistic skill. The definition of degeneracy echoed the words of Hitler's public denunciations. Confiscations of such branded works were left to Adolf Ziegler, the newly appointed head of the Reich's Chamber of Visual Arts. Foreign works found in Germany were also confiscated such as the ugly garbage by Pablo Picasso, whose renderings were perceived as art Bolshevism. The exhibition was designed to demonstrate the fact that modernist art was simply ugly, indecent, and deranged, but that it also directly assaulted the traditional social mores by disparaging motherhood, military heroism, religion, and whatever was clean, healthy, and chaste. Paintings, statuary, carvings of the most hideous forms were placed on display for all to see. Along with all of that junk there were statues and paintings done by German NS artists that depicted the degeneracy and music and dance early in the history of the NSDAP. The National Socialist Party managed to stop the Negroid American dancer Josephine Baker from performing in Munich by influencing the Munich City Council to ban her appearance. She was famous across Europe for appearing in a skirt of bananas, and little else. When she applied to perform, the Council replied: “No, mademoiselle, you not dance in Munich, a city that respects itself!” Berlin received her in popular demand, as this was still a city where a great deal of the populace was quite liberal, or left, and reflected the so-called intellectual current of the day. But those of Munich rather engaged in a “creative restoration” defined by the rediscovery of nature and home, the holy world of childhood, Christian belief, heroism, and the German song and saga. Back to the degenerate art exhibition; we are told by the German consigner of the flapper that this was one of the series of small sculptures that was found in glass show cases at the section on degenerate music and dance. He believes the sculpture in bronze is a depiction of none other than Josephine Baker, herself. When the physiognomy is studied it does seem to be Negroid in nature. So we consider this to be a rare find and possibly unique. It is certainly reminiscent of the turbulent 1920s and NS Kampfzeit. For the true Teutonic historian of this period, this is indeed historically important.

Book Septembre 1938 (Item GEN 11-18)

DESCRIPTION: This is a very rare special edition of the Paris L’Illustration magazine that was issued in 1938 commemorating the Munich Agreement. It is in the French language and is a large-format book measuring 11 x 15 inches with great pictures that are sharp and clear. The overall condition is fair and everything is hanging together well. The pages are not numbered, unfortunately, but with a quick count, there seems to be about 55. Some of the pictures are quite spectacular full-page framable images, but it is hoped that will never be dismantled for that purpose. A couple of the drawings that are full-page or double-page are of Chamberlain, the British prime Minister, and Chancellor Hitler in conversation and are wonderful and priceless. Unfortunately the book must have been in close proximity to water at some point and on one small picture of a night scene there is a bit of damage, about 1 inch high at the top of the pictures with the pages were once stuck together. Two pages at the rear of the book are missing. We know this from a comparison with the only other existing copy that we know of in a famous Berlin collection. This is a prodigiously historically important edition documenting an event that goes down as one of the most important in history. The left and liberals called it “appeasement” and made a mockery of Premier Chamberlain's statement as he came back to England: “Peace in our time!” And this could have been truly the case had it not been for the machinations of the drunken war criminal Churchill, who at the demands of “shadow people” was already maneuvering to move the British forces against that “peace in our time.” The expression has entered into newspeak, à la George Orwell, just as McCarthyism and Quisling have been accepted by people too busy to think about this thought control. That was purposely pumped into the heads of a complacent and apathetic public, which was only too ready to accept this venomous verbal garbage as having the ring of truth, even though it is psychologically implanted by forces that are not the friends of these sad dupes. History is written by the winners regardless if there cause was good and just. This is a great book that recounts the moments when there really was a chance for peace to prevail, but turned out to be the beginning of a great, tragic fratricidal war that devastated Europe and began the steady downfall of England as a world power, forever.
