Taschenatlas (Item WAF 8-1; SS 29-2)
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a neat, I repeat, neat, little SS Taschenatlas (pocket atlas). This is the literal translation, but this particular one wouldn’t fit in my pocket. It’s constructed beautifully and resembles a book with book-style spine and cover, but when the cover is lifted a box-style opening is revealed and here reposes a paper-bound world atlas with various colorful foldout maps of all the world’s continents and principalities as they looked in 1943. The hard covers make it a really secure repository for the atlas. On its back cover it clearly says “Published by the Reichsführer-SS at the SS Headquarters Berlin-Grunewald, Douglastr. 7-11.” The size of the booklike outer box is 6 x 9 1/2 inches. The atlas itself is 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. The condition is near mint on the outside box. The atlas shows legitimate wear, but is still in very good shape.

Berlin Lichterfelde Carved SS-LAH Eagle (Item WAF 8-3)
| DESCRIPTION: This is a grand hand-carved wooden sculpture of an eagle superimposed over the runes of the SS. It hung over one of the inner doorways of the Waffen-SS (LAH) Leibstandarte-SS Adolf Hitler headquarters. This was an introduction room where new recruits were first indoctrinated into these elite formations. The reason (we are told) for the SS runes to be partially hidden by the sword is that the eagle, Deutsches Adler now brings the Teutonic sword to the halls of the Praetorian guard, the LAH. The eagle sets the sword upon the symbol sacred to the men of this famed fighting outfit, who up to the time of war was simply a home guard. Now they would be their country’s proudest and best fighters in the war to preserve Europe from the evils of Bolshevism. The piece is Germanic art in its most militant form; realistic yet surrealistic at the same time. It’s original and was found at the LAH headquarters at Berlin Lichterfelde when the buildings were occupied by the U.S. Army (and summarily looted). The base became known as “Andrews Barracks” and many great items were immediately snatched, mostly by officers, like the one we were able to buy this eagle from. He found it in an anteroom on the second floor securely locked, but opened by a GI who was a former locksmith. The eagle has a wingspan of 33 inches and from the top of his head to the bottom of the SS wreath it measures 14 inches. The condition is wonderful with a very few small nicks here and there. This is a magnificent trophy of war from the most courageous elite fighting force the world has yet seen.

Set of -marked Forks (Item WAF 8-4; SS 30-8) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a set of the forks similar to the set of spoons that are seen at Item WAF 6-11. The description is all there concerned with how and why these sets were made. This set was produced by the firm of L. Lülwes in Detmold. Detmold was an area frequented by both the Allgemeine- and the Waffen- for here was the Hermanns Denkmal and the Externsteine (Rocks of the Sun). At both of these places SS ceremonies were abundant and thousands of the Black Corps were visitors in the towns of Detmold and Horn when these ceremonies were occurring. The shops and the firms of the area were extremely patriotic and had a love affair with the and party functionaries, but especially the . So, this therapeutic program for the wounded of the nation’s elite was favored by all the Burgers and this firm of L. Lülwes was no exception. These six forks were considered fish forks. They are marked “Alpacca,” which is also known in English as German silver. They are in very good condition as is the presentation case. Each has the tiny impressed set of runes at the crest of the grip. The case measures 7 x 4 inches across the top and 1 1/2 inches deep. It has the silver-colored runes in the circle on its top the size of a U.S. 25-cent piece. The case is constructed with a form of leatherette. This makes a handsome showpiece for either an Allgemeine- or Waffen- display.

SS Arm Eagle
(Item WAF 8-5)
| DESCRIPTION: This is a 100-percent genuine Waffen-SS sleeve eagle in wool felt (embroidered). These are getting very scarce. The condition is excellent. This is a Type I Eagle (machine woven) as shown on pages 439 and 440 of John R. Angola's book Cloth Insignia of the SS. Especially note the picture of the camouflage SS paratrooper jump smock. This style eagle began to appear in 1939, but was actually worn throughout the war. It later was officially replaced with a Bevo production that had finer detail, but the Type I still remained popular and was allowed to still be used.

SS Arm Eagle (Item WAF 8-6)
| DESCRIPTION: This is also a 100-percent original Waffen-SS arm eagle. This is the one by the Bevo firm in Wuppertal. This was in 1944 and unlike the Type I, it was machine woven flat with aluminum thread. This one has a rather light-tan coloration and might be the type designed for SS tropical clothing and for camouflage uniforms. Even as late in the war as this, examples like this are found with RZM tags on the back since the companies that produced them were still under the regulations promulgated under these laws. The condition of this one is as you see it in the images. It was cut out of the rectangular patch that they were issued in and actually sewn to a uniform then removed from the then-discarded uniform by a GI, so it is in used condition, but still proud and sharp. Something about these insignia of the SS attracts Germanophiles worldwide. Here is a prime example of its species.
PRICE: $390.00; this is a bargain!

Recruitment Poster for the Horst Wessel Panzer Grenadier Division (Item WAF 8-7)
| DESCRIPTION: This is one of the posters that was bought from a lot released from a Russian museum. They are all in fairly good condition, but were folded in half for storage. It was to be a special display with several hundred posters looted out of Germany in 1945. The museum directors, however, under intense pressure were dissuaded from this exhibition, probably because the powers that be thought that in this day and age it might be politically incorrect to feature such art that might engender admiration in the outlook of especially “impressionable” young people so the whole plan of this special exhibition was scrapped and that is essentially why you are able to buy such great posters today at a fraction of what they should be worth. This one is in particularly fine condition and measurers about 34 x 24 inches. It says “Komm zu uns!,” “Come to us,” and “SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division ‘Horst Wessel,’” one of the elite formations of the Waffen-SS. This is a very dramatic-looking poster.

Ring of the Nordland Waffen-SS Panzergrenadier Division (Item WAF 8-8) |
| DESCRIPTION: This is one of the most beautiful rings produced by Herr Franz Schnell. See about him at About Our Rings and Silver Insignia. Herr Schnell had many contracts with companies that supplied various items to Waffen-SS and Allgemeine-SS units. This ring was just one of the pieces of jewelry produced by this marvelous silversmith and jeweler extraordinaire. The ring bears the bent-arm (Sonnerad) swastika used by the Fifth SS Panzer Division Viking. That was for the most part made up of foreign volunteers from the Nordic countries. A Scandinavian volunteer regiment was pulled out of line to be used as the basis for a new division. The name of the division was to be “Nordland” made up at first with Norwegians and Danes, but later although Nordland carried the widest range of nationalities found in a single division, by the end of the war they had Danish, Hungarian, Dutch, Norwegian, Estonian, Finnish, French, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish, and even British volunteers. They either served in the division or had been attached to it. They fought valiantly against the red bastards known as Josef Tito's partisans; then from Leningrad to Narva, later East Prussia and Pomerania. They were major participants in fighting the red serpents in the Battle of Berlin on May 2, 1945. The commandant of the Defense Area Berlin gave the official order to end hostilities and 80,000 or so prisoners of war were marched east; most SS men, loyal to their oath, to their nation, and Führer, had either fought to the death or taken their own lives, a popular option considering the rumors circulating. Most of them would dare not perceive a world without National Socialism. Of the few brave man who reached the allied lines most were handed over to their respective countries and the leftists that were now in power and were tried as traitors by the real traitors, some serving prison time and some even receiving the death penalty. So ended the struggle of these million idealistic young Europeans to create an Imperium of the western world and crush international communism. The ring can be sort of a memorial to their bravery and ideals. It is truly a beautiful piece of jewelry in classical design. The original Sonnerad (sun symbol) swastika used by the Viking division was basically the same design except the arms did not curve back at the ends. This Nordland design is somewhat different. However, they also continued with the original Viking design except with the ring. You can note the curve-back at the hands of the curves. The shank of the ring is typical with designs reminiscent of the Nordic flower that is used in northern architecture and even in national costumes. The ring is struck in a ‘835’ silver and is so marked inside. This is a very handsome ring, and of course very historically important to the saga of the Waffen-SS. Wenn alle untreu warden, so bleiben treu doch wir!

Order from Top SS Commander (Himmler) about Russian Propaganda Film (Item WAF 8-10; SS 30-11; HH 4-2) |
| DESCRIPTION: This is possibly one of the most interesting Himmler orders we have ever seen. It basically is an order to the general SS both Allgemeine and V.T. (Waffen-SS). It mandates that members of the SS should not attend the showing of “Battleship Potemkin” being presented at the Lichtspiel Theatre ostensibly because the film is derogatory and dangerous for viewing for our troops. The order has a file stamp through which Himmler hand signed his name in his traditional green pencil or green ink. It is dated 3 December 1938. There is another signature at the top that is signed over an eagle and swastika stamp that looks like the signature of Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich. We cannot vouch for this one, but it if is then no doubt it was signed at the same time. The film traces the story of the mutiny in 1905 of the crew of the Panzerkreutzer Potemkin. The sailors rebeled against their oppressive Tsarist officers. It was written and directed by Sergei Eisenstein and in liberal circles it is called one the most influential films of all time. The film shocked audiences for not only its communist political statements, but for its graphic violence. Actually, Joseph Goebbels called Potemkin a marvelous film without equal. In the cinema world he said anyone who had no firm political conviction could become a Bolshevik after seeing this film. Himmler and his close followers didn’t see it that way, of course. However, the fact that was in fact allowed? to be shown throughout the Reich seems to be at odds with the present “orthodox” view of history of the 20th century. Yes, Himmler forbade his legions to view it, but in general the German public saw it and had mixed emotions. The order that is truly rare and historically important is nicely framed with a picture of the Reichsführer-SS and a copy of the ads for the film. The frame measures 33 x 16 1/2 inches. The original signed order measures 8 x 8 1/2 inches. All the items, pictures, and document are expertly matted and acid-free museum matting stock was used and nonglare glass was employed. In other words this is a great and historically important grouping beautifully presented.

Italian Flagpole Top (Item WAF 8-11; I-FAS 3-11)
| DESCRIPTION: Although the bird is almost a look-alike, this one is the Italian eagle. We at first wondered a bit about its practical usage and then after looking closely, we realized it couldn't be anything but the flagpole top because the bird is finished on both sides. If you look at the Italian SS cap set at Item I-FAS 1-7, you can see that it is a German eagle that is used as similar to the German national military eagle. There is also the possibility of other inspired and often German-led units of Italian volunteers using this flag device. The Italian cadres were very proud of their service, which consisted of some of the toughest and nastiest close combat of the war, and that was the antipartisan mop ups. The partisans were definitely vicious communist murderers whose atrocities were beyond any human comprehension not only against German and Italian soldiers, but any person or family that opposed the horrible red agenda. Besides the SS there were other elite antipartisan units such as the Black Brigade, the RSI, the DNR (Republican Guard), the famed Debica Battalion, and Brigade Doehla . The largest of the antibandit brigades was the RSI (Italian Social Republic Forces). Any of these units could have used this dramatic-looking flagpole top. I would love to see the flag or standard that went with it. Anyway, this is a super item of historic importance on its own.

Book Wehrraum Alpenland (Item WAF 8-12)
| DESCRIPTION: The History of the Land of the Alps in War from the -Totenkopf Library traces the military history of the mountain folk from earliest times to the time of the Third Reich in 1943. This was an elite unit of the Waffen-SS commanded by Theodor (Papa) Eike from 1933 to 1934. This unit was formed in 1937 at the Dachau concentration camp. Two Sturmbahne of this Standarte entered the Sudetenland before the rest of the troops to support the Heinlein Freikorps and prepare for the German invasion and liberation. They were used for police duties during the invasion of Poland behind the lines of the 10 Army between Upper Silesia and the Vistula River. This duty consisted of hunting down remaining Polish soldiers and finding the murderers that killed and terrorized the German minority in Poland. Most of its men were used to create and form the SS-Totenkopf-Rekreuten Standarte. Their beginnings were from the small SS units and the SA fighters from the Alps area thus the name “Oberbayern” for high Bavaria. This book was a “natural” for this unit since they were also mountain men of sorts. This is possibly the most concise history written in contemporary times about this fascinating subject. It has 312 pages with many photos and drawings beautifully arranged in a marvelous presentation. This is very historically important and all the more valuable considering the Waffen-SS ownership.

Book Germanishe Freiwillige im Osten from SS Library (Item WAF 8-13) |
| DESCRIPTION: This book is great in its presentation of the heroism and resolve of the various volunteers from other lands that served alongside their German comrades in the great war against the communist menace that threatened the lives and existence of all Europeans. The book suffered much damage and was probably taken into combat by a soldier of the Totenkopf Division. He probably borrowed it from the library of the “Oberbayern” Standarte when he was attached there. The book has the look of having been in damp places and mold and rot set in, but the person who consigned it to us in Germany cut away the parts that were heavy with mold. Most of the pictures are alright with a taped repair now and then. Some of the pages are warped, but considering the rarity of the volume one could overlook all this damage with the thought in mind that here is an authentic war relic devoted to the brave soldiers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Ost Prussia, etc. Some of the line drawings are of tremendous impact. The book measures 9 3/4 x 7 inches and has 76 pages of text not counting the many picture pages. The bookplate from the Bucher Reihe, or library, is also rather beat up, but is original. This is a good piece of memorabilia from a turbulent time.

SS Elegant Spoon Set (Item WAF 8-14; SS 31-3) |
| DESCRIPTION: We explained the reason for these spoon and fork sets to be made, and you can see the explanation at Item WAF 6-11 and Item WAF 8-4. As time went on with this Verwundete program the pieces got better and better and often they were exquisite on genuine silver spoons that displayed the SS runic symbols. Additional parts were supplied depending on the generosity of the companies supplying the tools and blank planchets to the wounded soldiers. Regarding the set offered here the six spoons in their case are much finer than the ones offered at the links we have given, and they are in genuine ‘800’ silver, and so marked. They also have the moon and crown as often required. The SS runes actually look to be produced in the original manufacture of the spoons, but like the ones mentioned, the SS in a circle was applied later, as explained. The company that supplied the pieces in this case was the firm of Hermann Severin, who was a specialist in clocks and gold jewelry and located on Königshofstrasse of Magdeburg. The box that they are contained in is of mock lizard skin or crocodile hide. The spoons measure about 5 1/2 inches long. The case is 7 x 4 inches and is 1 1/2 inches deep. This is a really beautiful grouping, and historically important.

LAH Cigarette Case (Item WAF 8-15) |
| DESCRIPTION: This is a beautiful cigarette case with hand-engraved design. It is from the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler elite division and probably is done by the same artist as did another we had like it in the last year. In any case, this is marvelous work, skillfully executed, and with great detail. The Iron Cross is shown with Teutonic sword and oak-leaf branch, while on the left front is a floral design with the SS runes in a shield. On the back are the words: “Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler” and an engraved picture of the tank-destroyer badge “Senderabzeichen für das Niederkämpfer von Panzer Kämpfwagen durch Einzelkämpfer .” This was given in several classes to combatants who single handedly destroyed an enemy tank in battle. So we might assume from the designs on the case that the former owner was an LAH soldier who did indeed qualify for this prestigious award and also was the recipient of the Iron Cross. The case measures 4 x 3 inches and is in very good condition. It is probably made of silver-plated brass. It’s very stylish in its construction and something that one of these elite soldiers would have been very proud to produce when offering a smoke to his Kameraden.
PRICE: $1,600.00; very rare, very beautiful
