Meisterbrief, Master Craftsman’s Diploma (Item RAD 4-19)

DESCRIPTION: This diploma was presented to a Mr. Johann Beer, born June 22, 1913, in the hamlet of Malsbach, and on June 17, 1937 he passed the Meisterprüfung (examination for a master’s certificate) to become a blacksmith with completion of all necessary preparations and requirements for leadership with master class title in this handiwork. It is signed by both the chairman (Vorsitzende) and assessor (Beisitzer). At the bottom under a picture of old Nuremberg are the words “Nürmberg--der Stadt der Reichparteitag,” Nuremberg--the city of the Reich’s Party Days. The document measures in its frame, 26 ½ x 9 ½ inches. The piece is bedecked with swastikas and also has the shields with symbols of the various handiwork professions up and down the sides. The condition is quite good for being 67 years old with a bit of stain here and there. The Beer family told us that the diploma hung in Mr. Beer’s blacksmith shed from 1937 to 1945 without benefit of frame or glass. The family framed it in 1955. This is one of only a few that survived the conflagration of the war and de-Nazification. This is a great NSDAP relic that would be a super centerpiece in a collection.

The size is about 45 inches x 48 inches. It is a very nice wall hanging. The name of a medieval knight of Germanic history is seen in the patch at the left-top corner. Deutsches Arbeit Front Flag (Item RAD 4-25 & FLAG 1-19)

DESCRIPTION: This is an Ehrenfahne (honor flag) of the German Workers’ Organization, the DAF. This was the organization organized by Dr. Robert Ley after the Hitler government abolished all trade unions throughout Germany. The purpose of the DAF was to ensure the political stability and trouble-free running of German industry and commerce. The organization was welcomed by the greater percentage of the German workers because it gave them the opportunity to not just work and toil, but to be uniformed participants in a program that was rewarding both in enthusiastic pageantry and culture. Many ceremonies embracing patriotism and love of fatherland were held throughout the year. The programs helped the solidarity and comradeship between management and the workers (Kameradschaft). It made them N.S. equals as they worked for the greater German Reich. This is an actual flag and has the reinforced edging to receive the flagpole. The patch with “Rosenheim 1” in the corner indicates the section of the DAF where this group was centered—Rosenheim. This city was and is known for its huge beer brewery making the world-famous AuerBräu. In 1940, most of the workers at the brewery were drawn into the war service--industrial or military. In 1945, the allied air attacks destroyed most of the town and brewery, but it was rebuilt by management and coworkers all having belonged to the DAF where they learned such cooperation for the good of the nation and Volk! Hermann Göring was born in Rosenheim. The city was loyal and steadfast in their support of the NSDAP. The flag is 55 x 48 inches and is in immaculate condition. This is one beautiful Third Reich flag. It’s double-sided with silver fringe. Very nice!

DAF Flag (Double Sided) Very Reasonably Priced (Item RAD 4-25-A & FLAG 1-10)

DESCRIPTION: Here is the affordable N.S. flag for the museum or collector who doesn't wan to lay out the big bucks that Nazi flags are presently bringing. First of all, do understand that this is an authentic flag of the Third Reich. It is a factory flag used by the DAF (Deutsche Arbeits Front), the replacement for labor unions and better than these gangster-ridden organizations that often are just that. Under National Socialism, the worker was "king." Seldom was there any labor disputes that could not be solved by the DAF units in German industry. The DAF was the worker's friend! This banner is double-sided and big (about 10 feet long). It has the brass fastening devices. The picture shown is ok but the flag is partly folded over the iron gate, so it's bigger than it looks. It has quite a few holes, but museums are not bothered by that. Authenticity is the issue and this is 100% authentic. As we said, it's reasonable...even cheap! Grab it because it won't last long.

DAF Banner (Double-Sided) (Item RAD 4-25-B & FLAG 1-11)

DESCRIPTION: This is a pretty nice banner from the Deutsches Arbeits Front, the NS labor organization that replaced labor unions in the Third Reich. This banner is double-sided with the center cogged whell and swastika separately sewn onto the red field. It is large (9' 4" long). It has a few holes but the colors are bright and it is very dramatic looking. Yes, it has a hole or so, but it is 100% authentic. Museums are not at all concerned about holes. Their concern is originality and this one is very authentic as all the flages offered by Germania are. We offer it at a very good price that won't shock your billfold. For an explanation of the DAF, go to Google and there will be several descriptions of the German Labor Movement in the Third Reich. There might even be one of two that look at it objectively???? The DAF was one of the most important units of the whole Third Reich apparatus.

Amber (Bernstein) Stickpin from D.A.F. (Item RAD 4-29)

DESCRIPTION: Bernstein, or amber, is the sacred stone of Germany. Actually, amber is not a stone in the truest sense, rather, it’s fossilized resin from trees common to 50 million years ago. To the Norse people Bernstein was the golden tears of the goddess Freya that fell into the sea and solidified. Bernstein to the ancient Germans was the Burning Stone. When burned it gave off a pine scent 50 million years later and they used it as sacred incense. Amber is the gem of Germany. During the era of the Third Reich this ancient resin-like material was used for many artistic projects as well as décor. The Führer’s special editions of Mein Kampf were often a presentation piece with a cover made up of amber pieces. Rings, jewelry, and decorative plates were constructed from and using the Heilege Stein. In this case, we see a tiny chip of Prussian amber with metallic insignia attached, and the whole being crafted into a stickpin. The insignia is of the DAF (Deutsches Arbeit Front) and the Deutsches Handwerk Verwaltung. Under it is an attached tag in paper that identifies this chip as natural Bernstein (NB). As small as this little stickpin is, it has great N.S. significance. The handworkers of this organization often worked in amber and some of their accomplishments are things of immense beauty. This is historically important and neat as all heck.

Labor Cops (RAD) Officer’s Hewer (Item RAD 4-30)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a nice example of the RAD Hewer by Carl Julius Krebs. Krebs had the original contract for RAD daggers being an early member and supporter of the labor organization and as far as we are concerned he made the best of these Roman-looking knives. We think other than the chained SS daggers, these are probably the best-looking edged weapons of the Third Reich. This dagger is accompanied by the scarce hangers in pigskin leather. The dagger is in very fine shape throughout, but the grip is a bit different finish than the scabbard. The grip looks to have a dull aluminum finish, while the scabbard is with a semigloss plated finish. The hangers are firm and holding up well, but the clips at the bottom where they attach to the scabbard are of the Luftwaffe variety. They don’t look to have ever been replaced so I assume they are an original variation??? All in all, this is a very nice specimen and is priced very reasonably.
