Presentation Book from Hans Frank, Governor-General of Poland (Item PERS 1-4)
|DESCRIPTION: This is a very special book presented to Max Amann, 1891-1957, Reichsleiter in charge of the NSDAP press. He was the Nazi Party's first business manager. Joined in 1921, he was the publisher of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. He promoted the book to the point that it outsold every book in Germany except the Bible. This presentation book that we now present is an absolutely beautiful volume given to Amann by Hans Frank, 1900-1946, and hand dedicated and signed. Frank was the head of civil administration in Poland. He was an early member of the Nazi Party as was Amann. Frank was a brilliant attorney with a superb legal background and an intimate acquaintance with the arts, especially music. With suavity and polish he held a succession of legal posts (He was also a Reichsleiter of the NSDAP). In 1939 Frank was appointed Governor-General of Poland. The book is signed to "Herr Reichsleiter Amann in alter Kampfverbundenheit, Old Fighting Comradeship with heartfelt sincerity Frank (Governor-General) Krakauburg, 23/9/43." This book is a dedication to German art presented by the Association for Art and Knowledge. With the sponsorship of the Governor-General Reichsminister Dr. Frank who published it for the institute for German eastern studies Krakau. It has 124 pages and measures 9 ½ x 12 ½ inches. It's in excellent condition except for a (sad part) we will explain. It has many artistic renderings in black and white from biblical and medieval woodcuts and oils. There are two full-color and full-page prints that are particularly beautiful. Now the 'sad part.' At the back of the book after page 124 was a section of plates (Tafeln). The GI Kulturtrager looter tore them out and sent them home as stationary. He wrote his letters on the back of them (real class!) (Shades of the Iraq museum.) All in all what we have is what is left of a beautiful and historically pivotal volume; however, it still has significant value in the fact that it is a gift to and from very important historical figures of the Third Reich saga.
