OLYMPIC RING -- 1936 OLYMPIAD (Item OLY 3-1)

DESCRIPTION: This beautiful NS period ring is one the presentation prizes that were given out in a very limited number by Reich's Sports Director, Hans von Tschammer und Osten, 1887-1943. The rings were presented to persons who gave many an effort to promote the Olympiad in Berlin. Von Tschammer was ordered by Adolf Hitler to be the head director of all NS sporting events and pageantry. This is one of the most beautiful rings of the Nazi period. The ring measures slightly over one inch and is probably size 9 ½ or 10. In August of 1999 one of these rings was sold on pre-communist e-bay as item 143238320 for $3,000. The seller said the rings were given to gold-medal winners, but this was erroneous. But he was correct when he said you will find 10 SS honor rings for every Olympic ring found. In September of 1997 ring expert and historian Don Boyle wrote a small article where he cited the history of the Olympic von Tschammer rings. He made the mistake also about who received them. They were given to persons and corporation heads that helped to bring about the games in Berlin. Essentially the article was quite good in the usual Boyle style. The ring is very beautiful throughout and very artistically designed. It is believed that Hermann Göring came up with the original Entwurf design. The Nazi Sports Eagle sits above the five-ring Olympic logo. The sides are graced by the Heilige Eichenlaub, or oak leaves, the symbol of German honor from ancient Teutonic times. The stone is of sardonyx, which also has meaning in Germanic saga. This ring is 100 percent original and in extra-fine condition.

PRICE: SOLD--After selling the ring above, we were contacted by a veteran who had one, and after long and tough negotiation we were able to acquire it. The stone in this one is different than the aforementioned ring. Obviously the rings came in more than one stone theme; this one has a coloration that has an off-gold hue to it and it is in size 10. We offer this extremely rare ring in perfect condition for $1,750.00
