Can National Socialist Subjects be Cute? (Item NSTOYS 1-1; YOUTH 10-11)

DESCRIPTION: Well, here is a little couple that certainly fits that description. A tiny-tot Hitler Youth doll and a girls’ division (BDM) Bund Deutscher Mädel girl. These are as charming as it gets. They are a petite 3½ inches high. These are absolutely not reproductions, but 100-percent original Third Reich German production. These dolls may be by the famous toy firm of Schildkröt or possibly Palitoy. They are in A-1 condition having been stored away by a woman who received them back in 1935 as a Christmas present. She never played with them (they were just too nice!); she stored them away as a wonderful keepsake of her beautiful time in the BDM. Only recently did they reach the collector’s market presented by Germania International and we are so very proud to offer them and they are in the original German cigar box that they reposed in together for some 80 years. The little uniforms are very accurate and even of the correct fabrics like the original uniforms were constructed of. A little artistic license was used in the boy’s armband, but his tie, crossbelt, belt, and shiny boots tell you a young youth leader is depicted here. The BDM girl has a little jacket with pretty buttons and a nice black, wool skirt. The celluloid heads and delightful faces are as charming as they could possibly be! For an N.S. Hitler Youth collector or indeed a collector of rare dolls, this jolly pair will certainly fill the bill!

Most Handsome Little SS Trooper (Item NSTOYS 1-2; SS 38-1)

DESCRIPTION: Here he is in his full glory immaculately dressed in his kampzeit uniform. Little Hans wears his proper brown shirt (since the SS evolved originally from the SA troops commonly known as brownshirts ). Note his enlisted black collar tabs. He also has his belt with swastika symbol. He sports the traditional black cross strap. His riding trousers are typical of the type worn by the early SS men. He has his shiny boots probably made of oilcloth. On his shirt is the swastika armband and of course there is the black necktie. His face beams with youthful exuberance and patriotism to the cause he adores. For the most part, he is perfect, but somewhere in a street fight with the Rote Front (Communist thugs) he must have lost the cap insignia that was on his kepi. Yes, he looks boyish and mild tempered, but that is what these early elite fighters appeared to look, but they were subject to the words of their Führer: “Swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp’s steel.” Well, little Hans has tried to live up to that. However, he can come to you minus his cap insignia or here’s an idea: I have an original eagle-and-swastika silver stickpin that might just fill the bill that can be added to little Hans price for $50.00. (It’s a $100 pin, but since we admire him so much we are willing to give a very substantial discount if Han’s new friend desires to purchase it. (See the last image to envision what the cap would look like, if added). In any case, this little trooper is petite measuring a little over 9 inches tall. It’s light as a feather and rarer than a chained SS dagger and certainly much cuter. *It's absolutely original to the Third Reich period.

An SA Stormtrooper Doll (Item NSTOYS 1-3; SA 14-1)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a real rarity. An original period doll in the attire of an SA”Sturmabteilung” trooper. This little guy (Hans) is about one foot high.  His clothing is completely original and handmade. The trousers made of cotton, have about 4 tiny moth holes. The shirt is in perfect shape. The little swastika armband is a bit short in the back. The family who owned the doll didn’t wish to discard it after the war but the armband was removed at that time. (Of course!) The owner had two dolls like this one. The other one was a bit smaller in stature. In any case the armbands were hidden away and only recently the one that Hans is wearing was rediscovered found in the pages of a book. The problem, although slight, was the armband for our Hans was missing but the one for the other doll (Fritz) who was given away back in the 60’s was there so the folks put the shorter armband on the doll we bought and it looks fine although a bit short in the back. The arms are movable, the belt and boots and cross strap are of leather. The head revolves. His little blue eyed countenance is what would be expected of a fine young Aryan youngster. He is the miniature personification of the people of the ‘Bewegung” (movement). Sometimes various SA headquarters in a district would have a showcase that mounted on a wall or sat in the vestibule of the building and in these cases would be found various articles that were meaningful to the ‘Sturm” (unit) -- a little SA man like this would fit perfectly in such a display as these dolls were not playthings. They were exhibited items for sure. Tiny uniforms were made and given to tots and pictures were snapped of these little boys who proudly posed with the SA ranks for special photos for propaganda purposes and sometimes just for amusement value. Many of these little guys got to be photographed with the SA leadership and often with the Fuhrer himself. The SA were an especially tough and hardy lot but also had a sense of humor and charm and this doll summoned up those feelings as practically nothing else does. We show an SA dagger next to ‘Hans” for viewer perspective.

Set of Dominoes for a Wehrmacht Officers R&R Center (Item NSTOYS 1-4; WEHR 34-8)

DESCRIPTION: This is one of the most unusual items that we have ever found or offered. Here are 28 separate pieces of little dominoes that would have been in a German Wehrmacht rest and relaxation Kaserne. European dominoes are traditionally bone or ivory. But in this case the manufacturer has produced them in a form of something like plastic or perhaps Bakelite and they are of correct weight and obviously are quite substantial. The condition is excellent. The number 28 is correct for an official domino set so not only is this group extremely rare, but perfect. Now the incredible part, each and every piece is deeply stamped with the German National eagle in the Wehrmacht style. They look like ivory, but certainly are not. They each measure two inches by one inch by about ½ inch thick. They are packed in a box which fits all of them perfectly for display. Although we think the bottom of the container may be original, if the top is original, then it was taped up and repaired through the years probably by a GI who brought the set back. It is rather astounding that this "Great War" souvenir made it here and intact! In all the years we have been at this we have never seen or heard of another set or even a single domino like this being available. This is absolutely rare and unique!

PRICE: $485.00; a bargain
