NAZI-ERA PATRIOTIC PILLOWCASE (Item FLAG 1-1)

DESCRIPTION: This dramatic-looking art piece sums up all the pomp and circumstance of the Hitler era and is tastefully executed, probably by a patriotic woman who thought, "The Thousand-year Reich" was her dream of the way things should be. Historically, she shows the old Reichsflagge next to the new Hakenkreutzfahne) with the German eagle in flight, which carries them into the Zukunft, "future." The embroidery work is extra fine and spectacular and it seems that every feathered effect is clearly brought out. The pictures supplied here fail to do justice to this wonderful objet d'art. The pillowcase itself measures 23 ½ X 17 ½ inches. The frame with glass measures 27 X 20 ½. This is a very historically important part of Kampfzeit, "time of struggle," history.

PRICE: $600

NS Patriot Window Banner (Item FLAG 1-2)

DESCRIPTION: This is the type of small flag that would be hung in the windows of houses where the inhabitants would be loyal Nazi Party members, especially during the elections in 1933. People who were not members, but recognized the advent of a new order also displayed banners such as this throughout the Reich. The picture between the two Hakenkreuze is of Adolf Hitler in the uniform of what has been labeled der Kampfzeit, or the Time of Struggle. This is a fine early NS item of historical importance. It measures 10 X 16 inches and except for a tiny stain by the left swastika, it's in prime condition.

PRICE: $350.00 SOLD

Bergen Unit Flag (Item FLAG 1-3; SS 13-2)

DESCRIPTION: Here is a real find. One of the house flags from the Bergen Division. We believe they were the Allgemeine forerunners of the famous Waffen- Hochland or -Oberbayern groups. The is a double-sided flag and is in marvelous condition throughout. Note in the pictures accompanying this entry the one from Thomas M. Johnson's new book, German War Booty. On page 74 he shows a grouping of what he calls an abundance of war booty from the estate of a Texas veteran. You can see there another Bergen flag that was looted at the end of the war. Although we now know of two in collections, they would still be considered quite rare and desirable to the advanced collector of material. This was a tough, crack, elite groups and the flag will be considered very historically important. It measures 53 x 38 inches-striking and pure!

The Ultimate Freikorps Flag
“The Werwolf Ensign” (Item FLAG 1-8 & FREI 1-10)

DESCRIPTION: This, in our estimation, is the most rare, exotic, historically important Germanic flag ever to be found. We are also convinced that this is a unique one of a kind item! The Werwolf  (in English "werewolf") were a small elite group of tough Freikorp fighters who were a part of the Heydebreck Freikorps. Hans Otto Von Heydebreck, who was called Peter Von Heydebrecht, born 30 June 1889, was a German Freikorps leader, and later a member of the Reichstag and a dedicated National Socialist. During the Red Revolution of November 1918, he founded the counter revolutionary Freikorps named after him. During the Third Silesian uprising in 1921, his troops were foremost in the re-conquest of the “low mountain” at the center of the Battle of Annaberg, gaining Von Heydebreck the epithet of “The Hero of the Annaberg.” This action was the great battle against the Poles in Oberschlesien. He wrote a book of his experiences named “We Werwolves.” This to us confirms that Werwolf was indeed part of Freikorps Heyderbreck. Information has come to us that this separate branch was officially founded in Halle in 1923 in much the same way that the SA formed the nucleus of the SS. The Werwolf emerged as the elite of the Freikorps. Some say that the Wehrbund Der Frontsoldaten was renamed the Werwolf.

Background on the name is as follows: Werwolf is a term equivalent to the English werewolf. This would describe man into wolf or “Lycanthrope.” In a novel by that title written by Hermann Loens, there is a romanticized tale of Germanic partisans “Werewolves” in Northern Germany in the 1600’s. In the Hitler youth organization, the term Werwolf comes up repeatedly because it implies mystic properties in combative furor against Germanys enemies. It is historically noted that there was an attempt at the end of the war to call for all-out partisan anti-Allies and anti-“Volksverator” actions. Unfortunately, it never got anywhere. The German people were exhausted but had they any knowledge of what the Allies had in store for them and their leaders, things would have been quite different.

The actions of the Werwolf Freikops in the 1920’s and early 30’s did however succeed in instilling justified fear in the hearts of their foes. Many corpses were dumped into landfills as the Werwolves plied their trade! I once had an old man who was a former Freikorp member of the Oberland Unit who worked as a carpenter for me. He said that it got so wearisome shooting those Reds and Spartacus revolutionists all day long up against the wall that his trigger finger got sore and his arm got tired from pulling the bolt handle repeatedly referring to the many hours spent as they executed these Communist terrorists. “Good work if you can get it!” The symbol of the Werwolf was the big red ‘W’ and the leering skull along with the Iron Cross. That along with a swastika was worn by so many of these tough fighters. Due to the combat experience of WWI they had absolutely no compunction about the effective dispatching of Germany’s enemies. It is of little wonder that the loyal HJ members, under the leadership of Obergruppenfuhrer Adolf Pruzmann, chose the name Werwolf for their clandestine guerrilla movement at the end of the Second World War.

The flag grouping includes the flag itself, the original pole that comes apart for storage, the finial or flag pole top and the leather carry strap used by the flag bearer when assigned to carry the proud flag of the "Verband." We cannot stress how prodigiously important this ensign truly is. Robert G. L. Waite wrote a book named “Vanguard of Nazism - The Free corps movement in Post war Germany 1918-1923."  The author keenly illustrated the pertinent facts that point out that not only did many of the Freikorps fighters go directly into the National Socialist party in several functions but the very essence of what the Freebooters were doing became the agenda of the anti-Communist Nazis.

Truly, it was the Spirit of the “Werwolf” and its black flag and skull that eventually passed on to the Schultzstaffel - The (SS). When in 1923, the Werwolf had disbanded as an actual combat unit engaged in battle, it became the veterans group named “Werwolf-bund Deutschen Manner und Frontkrieger” (Werewolf Organization of German Men and Front Line Soldiers).  As in the days of the Great War and the combat against Poles, bandits, Reds and Sparticists, this group still represented patriotism, honor, and ferocity against Germany’s foes even though most of them now wore the brown shirts of the SA. We can imagine no flag that can be more historically important than this one. It reminds us of Marshal Blucher’s flag that he raised at Waterloo when he proclaimed “Raise high the Black Flag my children - I will kill the first man who shows pity!”

Small NS Banner
A Small Original N.S.Banner (Item FLAG 1-9 & GEN 14-8))

DESCRIPTION: This is just as nice as they come and it is in very good condition, save for one small dime sized hole that you can see in the picture at about 7:00 outside the white circle. The banner is single sided and the white field and swastika is printed not sewn. The size is 30" x 50" and it has the bunting edge and fastening loops. This is the general purpose banner that had several purposes. The main one being that it is used to decorate a speaker’s podium but also to fly from a house window to show solidarity with the N.S. Party agendas. Banners like this are also to be seen in pictures of military vehicles of the Wehrmacht to identify them for German flyers so as to not be hit by friendly fire.

DAF Flag (Double-Sided) Very Reasonably Priced (Item FLAG 1-10 & RAD 4-25-A)

DESCRIPTION: Here is the affordable N.S. flag for the museum or collector who doesn't wan to lay out the big bucks that Nazi flags are presently bringing. First of all, do understand that this is an authentic flag of the Third Reich. It is a factory flag used by the DAF (Deutsche Arbeits Front), the replacement for labor unions and better than these gangster-ridden organizations that often are just that. Under National Socialism, the worker was "king." Seldom was there any labor disputes that could not be solved by the DAF units in German industry. The DAF was the worker's friend! This banner is double-sided and big (about 10 feet long). It has the brass fastening devices. The picture shown is ok but the flag is partly folded over the iron gate, so it's bigger than it looks. It has quite a few holes, but museums are not bothered by that. Authenticity is the issue and this is 100% authentic. As we said, it's reasonable...even cheap! Grab it because it won't last long.

PRICE: $288.00

DAF Banner (Double-Sided) (Item FLAG 1-11 & RAD 4-25-B)

DESCRIPTION: This is a pretty nice banner from the Deutsches Arbeits Front, the NS labor organization that replaced labor unions in the Third Reich. This banner is double-sided with the center cogged whell and swastika separately sewn onto the red field. It is large (9' 4" long). It has a few holes but the colors are bright and it is very dramatic looking. Yes, it has a hole or so, but it is 100% authentic. Museums are not at all concerned about holes. Their concern is originality and this one is very authentic as all the flages offered by Germania are. We offer it at a very good price that won't shock your billfold. For an explanation of the DAF, go to Google and there will be several descriptions of the German Labor Movement in the Third Reich. There might even be one of two that look at it objectively???? The DAF was one of the most important units of the whole Third Reich apparatus.

PRICE: $340.00 (Yes, very reasonable!)

National Socialist State Service Flag (Item FLAG 1-12)
Much Used Condition - Inexpensive

DESCRIPTION: This huge flag is the state service flag that was flown on N.S. government buildings in the Third Reich, even Gestapo headquarters in Berlin flew this type flag. Any building that was used for official government administration used this flag and not the more common red field with white circle and swastika. All police stations, libraries, schools and even concentration camps featured the "Dienst Flagge" service flag. This huge flag is 10 1/2' by 7' in size. The flag is in very used condition with some rips at the bottom (can be hemmed) and some holes, but it is an origianl piece from the Third Reich and was removed from a building in Berlin in 1945 by Russian troops who took a few moments' time away from murdering and raping to remove it as a trophy of their rampage. Most museums are not interested in condition when it comes to the acquision of a relic such as this. It is an honest and rare representative relic of the war and is priced really reasonably. It is shown backward because our photographer on that day didn't know the front from the back. Forgive us! Anyway, this is a great opportunity to own a genuine piece of the Reich without stretching your budget radically. Only $450, not the $1,200 that you would pay for it if it were in mint condition. Some would prefer this one due to its history.

National Socialist Veterans’ Standard (Item FLAG 1-13 & NSD 13-3 & VETS 1-18)

DESCRIPTION: This is the greatest veterans’ standard that we have ever laid eyes on and we have seen many hundreds of them. This one is colorful, dramatic, in wonderful condition, and very ‘NS.’ We have also never seen a vets’ standard with eagle and swastika; can’t say enough about this piece. The embroidery, the golden fringe, the wonderful design, the heading at the top reads: “Kameradschaft ehem. 65 er des Saargebietes.” In the middle is the gorgeous eagle with the mobile swastika behind. The eagle perches on a bayonet from which hangs an Iron Cross and portepee in the national colors. Below this the legend: “Sitz. Illingen. In the four corners are oak-leaf clusters. On the other side there is a picture of a cathedral. The design is similar to the actual regimental standards used by the active regiments in the German Imperial Army. The Prussian crown surmounts the central cathedral design. Projecting out from the central motif are four areas containing crowned battle honors surrounded by wreaths that contain the four battles in which this regiment distinguished itself: Marne, Somme, Cambrai, Champagne; all hard-fought battles that this unit bravely participated in. This standard with these names was considered sacrosanct and was only paraded on Veterans Day. Also seen are three flaming grenades that usually denote grenadiers. The embroidery in the cathedral and the eagle is astounding. The good brocade is fantastic. The fine gold brocade fringe on three sides is in perfect condition with none missing. The flag measures 42 inches square and the fourth side has all the brass rings for attachments to the flagpole. This is the ultimate veterans’ standard of all time. None better!

PRICE: $8,500.00
