Vegetable Strainer from Concentration Camp Buchenwald (Item CAMPS 1-10) |
|||||||
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a utilitarian utensil from the KZ at Buchenwald. The population of prisoners there reached 80,436 in late March 1945. The camp was actually built by prisoners during the summer of 1937. The first commandant of Buchenwald was SS officer Koch. Koch was a thief, drunkard, and a gambler. In 1941, he was transferred to Majdanek and replaced by SS Colonel Pister. Later Koch was accused of fraud and theft, plus mistreatment of prisoners. He was arrested by the SS and by order of Obersturmführer Josias Prinz Waldeck von Pyrmont, he was executed at Auschwitz. This implement is one of two similar found in Germany recently. It’s aluminum and about a foot long and is of the same type of aluminum as used in most KZ kitchens and mess-hall equipment. This is rare and seldom found.
PRICE: $225.00 |
