Sword Hanger for Officer’s Sword (Item WEHR 15-3) |
| DESCRIPTION: This type of sword-securing device was know as the “teardrop” hanger and would fasten within the inside of the army officer’s tunic and project through a slot that came through the flap pocket. The clip would fasten to the hanging device on the sword thereby letting the weapon be secure and uniform neat at the wearer’s side. The leather shows much usage, but is sturdy and firm. The suspension hook is Assmann marked (the company of mfg.). A necessary addition to any good sword collection or for a good piece to be complete.

German Mountain Trooper’s Ring (Item WEHR 15-6) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a really rare ring. It is the ring worn by the Gebirgsjäger, Mountain Troops. Quite naturally it bears the Edelweiss at the top, the flower that only lives up in the lofty peaks of the Alps. Songs have been written about this precious flower and we don’t even count the one from the awful movie, The Sound of Music (that propaganda flick). This is a beautifully crafted ring in ‘835’ silver and marked inside as such. The German Mountain Troops were a tough, resourceful lot of elite soldiers, who conquered the snowy peaks in the struggle for Europe. This is one of the rings that were actually designed by our elderly jewelry finisher mentioned in our first-page headings under About our Rings. This is very nice and rare.

Heroes of WWII (Item WEHR 15-7) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a very inspiring and dramatic original print from Third Reich archives. It’s called Übergang am Oberrhein 1940 from the great German art exhibition in 1942 at the House of German Art in Munich. The determination of the soldiers is supported by the sudden parting of the clouds to reveal the old church in the background. There is a message here. The preservation of European culture at the hands of German arms. A new tomorrow can only be brought by steel, hard discipline, and tenacity. It measures in its new frame 17 x 21 inches. This is absolutely an original Third Reich print. The work is by Wilhelm Sauter, a famous 1940’s artist. Very inspiring.

Der Letzte Handgranate, “The Last Hand Grenade” (Item WEHR 15-8; WWI 6-11) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here by one of Germany’s favorite artists, Elk Eber of Munich, is the immortal painting that was shown in so many books and magazines of the Reich. This is an official print of that very famous rendering that was featured prominently at the Great German Art Exhibition at the House of German Art in 1937. It, of course, depicts a German soldier in heroic action in the trench warfare of WWI. He gets ready to hurl his last grenade in hopes that it might take out the last vestige of the enemy entrenchment. Note the realism of the hands and the fine perception of the soldier’s determined face. Newly and professionally framed it measures 14 ½ x 17 ½ inches. The actual print is 9 x 12 inches. This belongs in a good collection of German military items. Very fine!

| DESCRIPTION: This is a pass for a soldier assigned to the 2/XXI.LD Sch. Komp 1/7 in Linz in 1939 with other orders in 1940. His name is Karl Schneider, born in 1898. There is a Gesundheitsblatt notice folded inside. There is also a picture of another soldier taken in 1940 separate, but enclosed (his brother?). The pass is quite water stained. It was sold to us by a GI vet who said he found it in a barn near Remagen.

German Army Mess Hall Bowl (Item WEHR 15-11) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a nice piece of mess-hall crockery dated 1942 with the nice, clear, national eagle and swastika printed under the glaze. The make, “Koenigszelt,” is stamped below this. The company was a major exporter to the U.S. and England in the 1930’s and early 1940’s and its logo included the word “Germany” spelled in English. I guess that they saw no reason to change it so here is the phenomenon of “Germany” spelled in the way of the enemy on a German Army item.

Panzer Beret Patch (Item WEHR 15-12) |
| DESCRIPTION: This is the patch that goes on a Panzer beret (Wehrmacht). This is the silver-bullion, oak-leaf cluster and national color roundel. This would be for the later version that was adopted after the introduction of the National eagle. It is in very nice flat weave and in machine-embroidered excellence.

Panzer (Overseas) Cap Device (Item WEHR 15-13) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a patch we have not been able to research. It is obviously authentic in bevo style, but we think it is for the latter Panzer overseas cap. The fact that the eagle is together with the national color roundel is different; usually the eagle is separate. Perhaps some of the collectors out there can help. It measures 3 x 2 inches.

Propaganda Poster (Item WEHR 15-14) |
| DESCRIPTION: These posters recently were found in Russia and it’s believed that some of them were produced in Russian in towns where the populace was anticommunist and pro-German. They are decidedly old and some are a bit dog eared. Almost all have been folded and they were put away for many years. We were told that they were made in printing shops and in many cases sold to the liberating German army personnel and SS as souvenirs. Most are quite colorful and dynamic. Many of them came out of the Moscow Museum. They all seem to measure 34 x 24 inches. They were, up to now, a private collection of a man in St. Petersburg, who bought all he could find in the last 25 years. Russia is still chock full of German relics of WWII. They are priced differently according to the subject and condition. Here is a poster if we can call it that. Here is a beauty of a propaganda poster. Colorful and dramatic the saying is: “Sieg um Jeden Preis,” “Victory at any price.” The action is great. This is one of the one procured form the Russian Museum in Moscow where many hundreds are in storage as well as the ones on display. We have mentioned in the writing about other such posters that many of these were printed in the Ukraine print shops and actually sold or given to the Wehrmacht liberators. So much did the Ukrainians hate and revile the dictator and gangster Stalin and his commissars that they glorified the soldiers of Germany and treated them as brothers. It’s only too bad that the OKW did not reciprocate or the war’s outcome might have been different. In any case, this is on glamorous and historically important poster. It had been folded in half but mounted or framed it is not going to be noticeable.
