Rosenthal Plate-Christmas, 1933 (Item ART 4-2) |
DESCRIPTION: Here is a beautiful Weihnachten Teller (Christmas plate) from one of Germany's finest porcelain companies, Rosenthal. It is the 1933 edition and the colors and repose work are beautiful. 1933 was Hitler's successful election to Chancellor of Germany and the beginning of the NSDAP regime. This is a very heavy plate, indeed. The back has the Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria marks and the name of the plate is "Through Night comes the Light." Original design is by Hans Schiffner. Condition is perfect and we must confess that we do not know if this is from the actual era or it may be a reissue by the company. We actually do not know how to tell ,for sure. In any case it's very nice and it might be just the ticket for the wife for a reward for letting you plow through all these SS and Wehrmacht goodies! Keep her happy. She will love this. Girlfriends often like these things, too.

Book Neue Deutsche Baukunst, The New German Architectural Art (Item ART 4-4) |
DESCRIPTION: Here is a fine and historically important book chronicling the new building form of the Third Reich. It consists of 95 pages by the Volk and Reich Verlag in Prag 1943. This firm had offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Vienna. The foreword is written by Albert Speer, the architectural chief under Adolf Hitler. The first page has the now-famous statement by the Führer at the party rally in Nuremberg in 1935: "Kien Volk lebt Länger als die Documente seiner Kultur," "No people shall exist longer than the documentation of their culture." Having quoted this we say that this book is an archival treasure documenting the imperium of the Third German Reich and its clean, noble, glorious architecture that was almost completely destroyed and is now replaced by the Coca-Cola culture propagated by the decadent west. "Michael Jackson" prevails until the west comes to its senses, perhaps. Regardless of one's personal perspective of the Reich, anyone who can appreciate non-Picasso art in its zenith will treasure this volume of vast historical importance. It comprises 95 pages of full-page photographs. The is a big book and the hornbook of classic Hitlerian architecture. A great find and priced extremely reasonably considering its full importance.

Black Forest Chest (Item ART 4-5; HUNT 5-1) |
DESCRIPTION: This is a great piece for the Germanophile who loves the arts and crafts of Old Germany and the Third Reich. We are not sure when this was executed, but it may well have been in the 1930's. It is, however, a great piece of masterful carving and a valuable addition to any good Germanic art collection or it would be a fantastic piece in a collection of hunting-related objects. The carving on the top of the box is in extremely deep relief and in its intricate motif it depicts the mountain on the run through the Tyrolean Forest. A mountain hut is seen in the background. The locking device is really unusual and must be the invention and clever creation of this master craftsman. The box measures 9 x 12 inches and is 3 inches deep with overhanging edges. The work is stupendous! The condition is great with one horn missing off the smallest animal. Nothing in Black Forest art will really surpass this Germanic treasure.
