Great Luftwaffe Photo Album (the Best!) (Item LUFT 1-A; ALBUMS 3-7)
|
DESCRIPTION: Here is one of the best German Luftwaffe albums that we have ever seen. The picture of the airman who owned it is prominently displayed on its first page, but unfortunately he did not fill out the pages with his personal history. This is one of the deluxe albums with leather covering and a whole wonderful pictorial section with pictures of Adolf Hitler, Hermann Göring, and other top leaders of the Deutsche Wehrmacht. Then next you will see great pictures of the Wehrmacht in action at the Front, four pages of pictures of the Iron Cross series; and the other combat medals of the Third Reich. Then a dozen pages for entries having to do with the owner of the albums, deployments, promotions, wounds, and honors. Then there are 58 personal photos from the early career of this man. The spectacular part is that 88 percent of the book covers in actual photos his time spent with the NSFK, or Glider Corps. This, of course, was the clandestine training of future pilots in defiance of the ignoble Versailles Treaty that forbade Germany an effective air force. Actual pictures from this period and of this sequence of events are extremely scarce. After this we follow our hero to the time of actual motorized flight and we see some of the earliest aircraft and Luftwaffe uniforms. The pictures are mostly 4 x 2 ¾ in size except for the last two that are 6 ½ x 5. These two show a group an advancement ceremony, but, unfortunately, these are a little bit damaged. There are also two extra loose pictures in the 6 ½ x 5 size; one shows the outdoor ceremony and the seated recruits, and another shows the camp HQ building and Luftwaffe personnel at attention. A bonus is a ‘Fliegerkarte’ put out by none other than (BP) that is a detailed map of Germany especially mapped out in air routes with a beautiful color cover with an early single-engined aircraft. This is a great archival treasure considering its great rarity.

German Me-110 Plaque (Item LUFT 1-2)
|
DESCRIPTION: This is a very
dramatic art piece from a special squadron of the Luftwaffe, which was quartered in the ancient town of Lübeck in 1941. It is an
aluminum aircraft plate mounted within a thick wooden framing device. It
has a Luftwaffe officer's cap set that is carved directly in wood--beautifully
executed in detail. The writing refers to the Möve (Seagull) squadron.
Its motto obviously was Blitzartic Schnell. This translates
roughly to "Lightning Quick." The metal part measures 12 ½ X 7
½ inches and the wooden part is 13½" x 17½" and is 1¼"
thick. The Me-110 was the other workhorse of the Luftwaffe and proved its
worth flying defensive missions at night. It carried radar, which enabled
it to see in the dark, and had an upright 20-mm cannon in the cockpit that
could be fired at enemy bombers from directly underneath.
