DESCRIPTION: Here is a 1st-Model early German air force officer’s dagger with chain assembly. It is used, but not abused! It is exactly as it was and has been since 1945 (in the veteran’s souvenir chest under the bed). It no longer has the gilted swastikas at the top or at the cross guard. The leather is still good on the scabbard. The grip has some nicks and gouges, but minimal and the whole dagger is in what we would classify as ‘good.’ The blade by Puma Solingen is in nice, bright condition. The scabbard fittings are grey and no longer bright and shiny. But, all in all, the dagger is sound and unharmed; it’s great for its age for sure! They are getting very scarce and should be grabbed when the opportunity arises. This is not mint by far, but it also is not $2,500 and it is a very nice example.

DESCRIPTION: This is a rather unusual item for the Luftwaffe dagger collector who thought he had everything! This is a set of carving implements manufactured by one of the knife makers in Solingen. You can readily see that parts meant for Luftwaffe daggers were used in their design—the grips, and the ring that fits between the grips and cross guard. We don’t know how many were even made, but this is the first time we have ever encountered a set. This is a really nice addition to a Luftwaffe collection. The condition of the blade is a bit rough since they were hidden away in a haystack in a barn in the vicinity of Hamburg for some 60 years. We ran an ad and the farmer dug to the bottom of the haystack and fetched them out for us.

DESCRIPTION: The description of these is practically the same except that we have a German Luftwaffe pilot at the top smoking his Bruyere pipe and in the corner are the words “For our comrades of the air our greeting from the homeland.” These pipes look like top quality and the card is truly unique. We at Germania think this is truly a great find.
PRICE: $595.00; the set. No pipes sold separately. |

DESCRIPTION: Oberst von Thoma, commander of all armored personnel assigned to the Condor Legion instituted a tank battle badge in the autumn of 1936 to be awarded to panzer personnel under his command. Only 415 were awarded, but undoubtedly more were manufactured. The badge was in one class only and was worn as a pin-back badge and was made of silver, silver plate, or white metal. The minor variations that exist can be attributed to location and date of manufacture. Regulations prescribed that the badge could be worn by discharged personnel who had been awarded the badge, but only when the uniform was worn. The Condor Legion was the “thunderclap” of Franco’s anticommunist struggle in Spain. This bloody confrontation would have ended in red victory had it not been for Hitler’s and Göring’s intervention with this corps of crack, disciplined, tough troopers. The communist rats were soundly defeated by the Legion and its Spanish patriots and Italian Blackshirt soldiers and airmen. The badge is a rare, cased example with the proper velvet-and-silk-lined interior. The outside of the box is the proper black, animal-skin-looking finish. The badge measures 2 1/4 inches high by slightly less than 2 inches wide. The case measures 4 1/4 x 3 1/8 inches. The badge is light and hollow backed with proper thin pin (not marked). It has great clear detail and is an all-around great-looking and important collectable.
