Estonian Military Photographs (Item AXIS 5-2) |
| DESCRIPTION: Since the Estonian military was for the most part on the side of the European anticommunist movement, and there is a huge hullabaloo going on even now because the people want to have a memorial to their Waffen-SS heroes, we thought it might be the time to list some of these pictures. We bought them all at once in Estonia and though there are the good guys here, there are also the foolish ones, or traitors, who served the Bolshevik side, as well. We presently have about 90 of these pictures (all originals; no copies); many cavalry, navy, infantry, etc. There are a few that look like "Ruskies." Too many to photograph. Ten to fifteen dollars each unless someone wants ½ or all! then a special price will be considered. They were hand selected so all are interesting. Contact us for a deal on these.

Latvian Nazi Ring (Item AXIS 5-4) |
| DESCRIPTION: This ring comes to us from a good source, who was able to sell us three of them. We are not experts in Latvian gear at all, but we know that the Latvian SS, for instance, used the skull and crossbones for its elite forces. So we present this ring that is quite well accomplished with the information from the seller only and he was not too knowledgeable, either. The rings have some sort of stamping on the outside of the ring’s shank. Under magnification you can see that the silver mark is ‘835.’ This is a German silver assessment, usually, but perhaps it was used by the Latvians, also??? If anyone has further information abut this ring, we would like to hear from you.

Flag of the Spanish Falange (Item AXIS 5-9) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is the flag of the Falange political movement during the Spanish Civil War. The Falange was an authoritarian organization of religious and patriotic Spaniards founded by José Antonio Primo de Rivera in 1933 in opposition to the second Spanish Republic that was blatantly communistic. During the civil war the Falange became a leading force on the nationalist side under the sole command of Generalísimo Franco. The Falangistas fought bravely against the left-led republic. Being the fastest-growing party on the right they were finally comprised of some 100,000 members. Primo de Rivera was eventually martyred by the red scum and because of his noble death the fighters for Franco had a rallying cry: ‘Revenge for José Antonio, our beloved, noble leader.’ It was a terrible war with atrocities on both side, but the terror of the left far exceeded that of the right by far and only the intervention of Hitler and Mussolini saved the Spanish people from being overwhelmed by the evil forces of the far left. Spain was a crucial pivotal point because had the international brigades, including the motley bunch of gangsters from the street and gutters of the world prevailed, Soviet Russia would have extended its malevolent control all the way to the Atlantic coast. The contemptible, salacious bums of the American Abraham Lincoln Brigade were one of the cowardly units sent to implant world communism on hitherto defenseless people. When the Luftwaffe Condor Legion warriors made their victory march through Madrid in May 1939, the people fell to their knees and tried to kiss their boots. These were the men mostly responsible for yanking the teeth of the red beast. The Falange flag was flown proudly next to the Reichskriegsflagge on that day. The flag we offer measures 59 x 34 inches. It is in mint condition with the Falange arrow yoke designed by José Antonio, himself. There are five arrows representing each of the five early kingdoms of Spain drawn together in the yoke of national unity. We don’t know for sure how old this flag is, but we do know it is the legitimate flag of the Falange Party and it is no souvenir piece. It is double-sided with the arrows and yoke actually being sewn on separately on the flag’s field. This is a very beautiful ensign and it belongs in any good fascist collection.

Slovakian Volksdeutsche Eagle Cap Badge (Item AXIS 5-12; WAF 5-8) |
| DESCRIPTION: There were of course the Hlinka Guard, faithful adherents to the National Socialist ideals and among these stalwarts were the elite storm troops or P.O.H.G., a specially selected unit of the fittest and most dedicated young guardsmen formed in May 1941, and sent to Germany for instruction by the SS. Rather more devoted to the cause of Adolf Hitler and the struggle against Bolshevism were those citizens of Slovakia who were of German ethnic stock (Volksdeutscher). Most of the citizens of Slovakia (128,345) were registered as Germans. Besides forming a labor service know as Deutscher aufbau dienst and German Youth Organization called Deutsche Jugend, both under the (DP) Deutsche Partei. The DP’s equivalent of the German Allgemeine-SS was the Freiwillige Shutzstaffel, Volunteer Defense Squad or FS. Its uniform was virtually the same as its German counterpart except that the SS eagle held in its claws; not a wreathed swastika, but a shield with a swastika on it similar to the DP lapel pin. It’s interesting to note the evolution of the badge. Originally, the eagle was of a nonpolitical sort (unlike the SS, German Army, or NSDAP types) and held in its claws a shield with the Slovak emblem. Later, the eagle became the SS type, but still the shield was Slovak. Finally, with all pretense dropped, the SS eagle held in its claws the badge with a swastika on a shield. Just as the Allgemeine-SS in Germany developed within its ranks an action troop. The Verfugungstruppen the forerunner of the Waffen-SS, so the FS burgeoned its own active corps, the Einsatztruppen or ET, which was armed, trained, and provided with uniforms by the German SS in the Ostmark (Austria) in March 1940. The FS numbered 5,622 spread through 126 different units in the country by 1942. This number had risen to 7,500 with its own flying, motorized, and cavalry subunits. They played roles in various operations such as the campaign in Poland and in forming effective antipartisan formations. They fought heroically on the Eastern Front sustained great losses both in infantry and air-force personnel. To understand the way these insignia came to us you need to read “About Our Rings”. After reading this you will realize that our German jeweler of old designed not only rings and other jewelry for the NSDAP, the army, the SS, but also insignia such as Hitler Youth eagles, articles for the Deutsche Ahnenerbe the Reichsführer-SS, etc. Among the articles that we were so fortunate to be able to purchase were many notes; plans; and in a couple of instances, actual dies or parts of dies; actual German insignia--original German insignia were made on dies not from rubber molds like the fakes are today. In the case of this Slovak eagle we first discovered a skull that was different from the skulls he made for the Italian SS eagle and skull set and also quite different from the skull for the Allgemeine and Waffen-SS sets that he did. The Allgemeine set’s skull is marked ‘380/40.’ The Italian is ‘499/41,’ while the Slovak is marked ‘M1/52.’ All of these items had to meet the insignia specification of the RZM and our mentioned jeweler had to include the granted numbers on his SS-oriented pieces (especially the SS). We had several of the ‘M1/52’ skulls, but we were not sure of what they were for. We also had the die for the front of the Slovak eagle, but were not at all sure of the connection. Later we received a copy of David Littlejohns Foreign Legions of the Third Reich, Vol. 3 that covered Albania, Greece, Hungary, and Yugoslavia. In this book we discovered the insignia of the Slovak military and SS units and things started to come together finally. We now realized that we had parts of the absolutely most rare of original SS insignia, but we still did not know the origins or the connection of the ‘M1/52’ skull because the book showed only the eagle being worn on the Slovak FS uniform. Then, in a later letter to the son of the elderly jeweler, we asked about it and suddenly the answer was apparent; the frontal die on the FS eagle that we had was accompanied with the dies (long gone) of the ‘M/152’ skull and they went together in a set. We asked why the book would have shown only the eagle and we were told that his father had received an order from the Reichsführer-SS for an order for 100 sets of the FS eagle with skulls, and the ‘RZM’ number ‘M1/52’ designation was also granted. FS Slovak SS men were to be used as concentration-camp guards in late 1943 and in 1944. In this case the SS procurement office had decided that the skull would have to be added. Whether or not any were actually sent or issued is unclear to jeweler’s son or to us at this time. Still we had only the front die and no examples of the finished eagle. We decided that this rare piece needed to enter the collecting world, after all, the die was original so rather than let it lie in oblivion we contacted our jeweler’s son and asked if he could produce the silver eagle out of the existing original die. He told us to our great disappointment that it takes two to tango! We would have to have the back die to do this. So thus we had to give up the whole idea since we did not have it nor did we have any idea about how it cold ever be accomplished. Then, out of the blue, three years later, we had occasion to be talking to Christine Murphy of Third Reich Depot and somehow we got to talking about SS eagles and somehow we realized she had in her possession a genuine Slovak SS eagle cap device. She was good enough to loan it to us and I sent it to Germany to Herr S and he told me that with this eagle and the frontal die the backside die could be produced, but at great expense. I decided that since we had the skulls and this precious frontal die I just had to say, “Damn the expense—full speed ahead!” So after about a month’s wait we received a grouping of eagles to compliment the skulls we already had. Now, in all its glory, we are able to offer for the first time this extremely rare set. Even though the back of the eagle is restruck, it is from the absolutely original dies. The skull is original also from the 1940’s. This is the only case where we have had an item struck, but we’re OK with it as you should be. It is nothing like a restrike. It is simply an item finished at a later date and should be appreciated as such. It was originally meant to be done and now it is in the finest workmanship available. This is a collector’s gem!

Reich’s War Flag from Holland (Item AXIS 5-13; KRIEG 5-14) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is the neatest little Reichkriegs Flagge that we have ever encountered. It measures only 30 x 50 inches--the size often used on PT boats or even on tanks (Panzer). It is very unusual being made in the Netherlands. There are a few moth holes, but probably inconsequential when held up to its overall condition and rarity. The most desirable of these war flags are the smallest and easiest to display. This one is clearly the best size. Do not compare size to price in the usual way. The little ones are absolutely the prize of Third Reich Flaggen.

NSB Banner, Dutch Nazi Group (Item AXIS 5-14; NETH 1-1) |
| DESCRIPTION: The National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands, Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging in Nederland, was the most important inner-Holland NS Party from 1931 to 1945. This loyal Germanic organization was formed by Anton Mussert in December 14, 1931. In 1936, this flag came into use. The emblem of the movement is n the center—a triangle with golden border with the Dutch lion with sword and arrows in gold. In each of the corners of the triangle are an initial of the party. The red and black stood for blood and soil, respectively (compare the German Blut und Boden). The orange, white, and blue refer to the heroic past on the world seas; the lion, the power of the Dutch people; the triangle, the delta formed by the river mouths on the Dutch coast. The black on the upper stripe also refers to Fascism (Italian style). At first the NSB was heavily influenced by Italian Fascism, but later drew closer to the more European German National Socialism. This is a political banner rather than a flag and was owned by a young member of the NSB that you can read about eventually when we write up more of his possessions and his interesting story. The banner is not the ordinary type of printed wall hanging. This one would appear to be a very important podium cover probably for use by famous leaders of the Dutch group, perhaps by Anton Mussert, himself. This lad was a close-in Beweging follower who never lost his faith in the agenda of the MSB or the NSDAP (more in future write-up). The size of this banner is 70 1/2 x 54 inches and as we have stated is anything but ordinary having appliqué construction with satinlike gold and silver strips made to form the NSB décor and insignia; almost certainly a special construction for prestigious events. There is some mothing and minor damage in this 70-year-old item, but it is holding well and is certainly an important relic from turbulent time. Very rare!

Adolf Hitler Glossy Portrait Commemorating the War in Spain (Item AXIS 5-15; AH 15-8) |
| DESCRIPTION: Here is a fine suitable-for-framing glossy portrait by Jacobs, in 1933, of the Führer, Adolf Hitler. It was one of the most popular of the portraitures of Hitler. We managed to buy a group of these on our last German trip in April. They are considered rare because of what they were issued for on May 31, 1939: the valiant soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the Legion Condor came home on KDG ships from the war in Spain having secured for Franco Spain’s total victory over the communists from Russia and other fallen nations. America allowed a motley crew of rabble called the Abraham Lincoln Brigade to take part in the attempted coup against the traditional catholic and democratic country. The Lincoln Brigade was outright red. Make no mistake, regardless of what Hemmingway or other leftist goons had to say, and unfortunately, still utter. Hillary and Bill would have loved them! The pictures were either distributed or sold at the gala welcome that Germany held in Hamburg for its victorious hero sons. The stamps on the back of the pictures proclaim: “Heimkehr der Deutshcen Freiwilligen aus Spanien,” “Homecoming of the German volunteers from Spain May 31, 1939.” Shown is the insignia of the Falange, the Franco patriotic Spanish movement against the communists, domestic and foreign. The pictures re in size 10 x 8 inches and most are in pristine condition as they were removed from a sealed carton that was from the year 1939.

Spanish Volunteer Medal (Item AXIS 5-16) |
| DESCRIPTION: The Spanish Government presented the Blue Division with a commemorative medal of its own. The award is surmounted by the Spanish crown with its main feature being a Spanish eagle with an enamel Iron Cross in the center which represents the collaboration between Spain and NS Germany. The reverse shows the Kremlin and the inscription ‘Rusia 1941’ denoting of course that the struggle was in the east. It was held by a white ribbon that has on either side the national colors of Spain and the German Third Reich. This is definitely a vintage example as opposed to later ones that still are worn by veterans with the swastika—that is not forbidden in Spain.

| DESCRIPTION: Established June 17, 1936, this medal was authorized for all members of the Legion Condor regardless of rank. The ribbon bears the black, red, and yellow colors of Spain. The medal depicts the lion victorious overt the griffon--the Falangist victory over the loyalist thugs. The other side has the Falangist arrow yoke and the eagle with the royal Spanish coat of arms. The medal has with it the original box of issue. This is an important Spanish medal to the elite German Condor Legion. This medal is so minty that it has the cardboard carton it came in.

Ultra-Rare Hlinka Guard Diplomats Dagger (Item AXIS 5-19) |
| DESCRIPTION: We have all seen the regular Hlinka guard dagger—the one with the ugly eagle head on top of a wooden handle or grip. It has a scabbard that is reminiscent of an SA or SS type with ball end. It has always been suspected that there was a dagger for high officers or diplomats that would be representative of the hierarchy of the loyal Czech legion who allied themselves with the German Third Reich. Father Andrez Hlinka was the cofounder of the Slovak anti-Bolshevik People’s Party. He died in 1938 and was succeeded by Monsignor Josef Tiso. Shortly after Hlinka’s death militarized units of the anticommunist Hlinka party were formed as the “Hlinka Guard.” The guard wore this aforementioned dagger. Until now no one had acquired or even seen the diplomatic officer’s dagger that we offer. The tradition of the polished wooden grip occurs even in this beautiful weapon with its otherwise elegant fittings. The dagger was manufactured by Eickhorn Solingen and has the typical Eickhorn squirrel-with-sword logo. The blade and cross guard are exactly as seen on the German diplomatic corps dagger; however, the top or grip pommel is totally fashioned only for this dagger and is to be compared to the shape and design of the Czechoslovakian Air Force dagger M-1927 model shown in A Guide to Military Dress Daggers, Vol. II, by Kurt Glemser, page 71. Since the Hlinka Guard and the independent state of Slovakia welcomed the independence from the western Czechs and the Slovak government with the protection of Germany, the administration was pro-Fascist and virulently pro-Nazi. It only stands to reason that diplomatic officials would have special dagger and we believe we have firmly found it. Mr. Thomas Wittman, author of many prestigious books on daggers, seems to agree with our estimation of the identity of this marvelous weapon. In World of Dress Daggers by Robert J. Berger on page 238 is quoted as saying: “In 1938, the Hlinka Guard was formed. It was a militant, uniformed organization of the Clerical People’s Party and mimicked the German SS.” I don’t agree exactly with the word ‘mimicked,’ but it does seem that the Hlinka’s Guard did emulate the German forces in much of it uniforms and equipment. The cross guard on this dagger is an exact image of the one used on the German diplomatic dagger also by Eickhorn with the eagle looking to the left as opposed to the government official model that looks to the right. This figures in our estimation as the eagle depicted came to typify the diplomatic services and a unit that styled itself so closely to the German Reich motif would most likely use this eagle. The scabbard is not like the German diplomatic dagger or any other German edged weapon. Take particular notice of the bottom 2 1/2 inches culminating in a configuration looking nothing like the ball bottom finial used on several German daggers. The pebbled effect that covers most of the scabbard is similar again to the style of the German diplomatic dagger, but the support bands that clutch the suspension rings are decorated with swastikas joined in sort of a Romanesque or Greek-key pattern. Sharpness and exquisite detail of these swastikas is immediately noticeable. The dagger is solid and beautifully constructed. The wooden grip will throw off the average collector who is used to the fine celluloid grips of German Army and Air Force daggers or the elegant mother-of-pearl grips of the German diplomatic and government daggers, but in keeping with the traditions of the Hlinka Guard and probably the sagas and tales of the Balkan forests this grip could probably not have been fashioned in any other manner. So Germania International is extremely proud to present this, the Hlinka Guard diplomatic dagger to the collecting world.

Book Berlin, Rom, Tokio (Item AXIS 5-22; NSD 13-7) |
| DESCRIPTION: This is a slick, large, soft-cover book (actually, a magazine) that was monthly (but try to find one). It went to a very selective readership: those who were associated with the diplomatic corps or those who supported the mission of the tri-nation pact among Germany, Italy, and Japan. It was a first-class publication filled with many pictures dealing with the alliance that proved fatal (unfortunately) for Germany. There were also great advertisements for German state-of-the-art products that might be able to be marketed to Italian and Japanese firms that also received these fine publications. This is a large-format magazine and an important archival item. This particular issue deals to a great part with India to include some important issues with the leader of the anti-British movement in India led by the charismatic Indian leader of the Bengal Volunteers. The NSDAP used the Indians through Chandra Bose to keep the Brits busy trying to quell rebellion, while Germany attempted to fight the reds in the east.
